Baby It's Cold Outside!!
Soon we will leave behind the heat and humidity of the summer months and the winds of winter will begin to howl th rough the Valley! Brrr!! Throughout the month of September, the Community Service Committee will be collecting Winter Outer Wear (coats, gloves, winter hats, scarves, etc.) for adults and children, guys and girls to benefit the Salvation Army. Your donations will be given to folks in our community who need a little help to stay a bit warmer during those cold winter months. The Committee will be distributing collection boxes the first week of September OR you can drop off your donations at the RVAR office. Do you have any listings that your clients are cleaning out in preparation for moving day? Ask your clients if you could help by collecting their unwanted winter outer wear! The Salvation Army is one of the 11 area charity organizations the RVAR supports. Help us help others in our community!

Advertising Alert: Rental Scams Continue
Online rental housing scams persist in the Roanoke Valley. RVAR was notified just last week of three rental scams -- involving postings on craigslist, Postlets and Oodle Marketplace. NOTE: These are legitimate websites which facilitate many legitimate transactions.Criminals search legitimate websites that list homes for sale. They take the photos and information in those ads and post it, with their own email address, in an online ad as an available rental. The supposed rental is often listed with a below market rate. Potential renters may be asked to send a deposit out of state and/or fill out credit applications asking for personal information like credit history and social security numbers. Criminals can use this information to commit identity fraud and/or steal money from their victims. Click here for tips on what REALTORS® should do and how to report rental scams.
