NAR Releases 2012 Seller and Buyer Survey
Did you know that, based on NAR's survey of 8,500 home buyers who purchased from mid-2011 to mid-2012:
- 89% of buyers used a real estate agent
- The typical buyer searched for 12 weeks and viewed 10 homes
- 65% of buyers were married couples -- the highest percentage since 2001
- The share of for sale by owner sales was down to 9%
- The typical home purchased was 1,900 square feet in size, built in 1992, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Buyers most wanted help from their agents with:
- Finding the right home to purchase
- Finding comps
- Price negotiation
- Negotiating the terms of the sale
Sellers most wanted help from their agents with:
- Selling their home within a specific time frame
- Pricing their home competitively
- Marketing their home to potential buyers

Supra Annual Invoice for Display Keys
With the lockbox exchange behind us, Supra will return to sending annual invoices for Display Keys (rather than 6-month invoices.)
Supra's annual invoice for Display Keys will be sent out on February 5, 2013 with a due date of March 13, 2013. The amount of
the invoice will be $161.23 plus tax. Agents can go to www.supraekey.com for billing
information -- or to pay online -- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you have any questions about your invoice, contact Supra support at 877-699-6787.
Reminder: Only agents who use Display Keys will receive an invoice. Agents who made the switch to the eKey (your smartphone) are billed monthly by Supra.

Important DPOR Changes and Delays
The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) is preparing to install a new database system for the Virginia Real Estate Board in late February. Be aware that:
- All DPOR forms have been updated and are now posted on DPOR's website. You MUST begin using the new forms immediately. The Board will ONLY accept the most recent versions. Using an older form can slow down your application. So make sure the form you are using has a date of 1/17/2013 or later (look in lower left-hard corner for revision date.)
- As DPOR staff learns the new database system, there will be delays in the time required to process applications.

RVAR's Education Committee has announced three GRI courses being offered this year. Each class is required to earn the GRI designation. (Click here for more information on each class.)

October 10 GRI 402 Financing Alternatives
Attention GRI Designees! You may register for any of these classes for only $35 per class. Enjoy the class, earn CE credits with no exam required.

Home Builders Welcome REALTORS® to Insulation Workshop
The Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association welcomes REALTORS® to register for a FREE Insulation Workshop, January 31st, 3:00-4:45PM. This event will be held in the training room of the Roanoke Gas Company, located at 519 Kimball Avenue. RVAR Training Room Available for Rent
Brokers may rent out RVAR's training room. The training room can
be configured in three ways:
1. Small training room: 12 classroom/30 theatre 1/2 day $60 / full day $90
2. Large training room: 36 classroom/50 theatre 1/2 day $90 / full day $150
3. Full training room: 50 classroom/80 theatre 1/2 day $120 / full day $180
Rental requests are based on availability. Evening and weekend rentals are also available. Additional charges apply for use of the LCD projector and screen; coffee service and room set up (no charge if you set up yourself.)
