Creating value for Nebraska's career education system 

 

Why is it that the shortest month of the year is always packed with lots of activity!  Partnerships for Innovation has been honored to work with many schools on the reVISION process, Career Academy development and overall CTE enhancements.  

PFI had fun presenting at the ESU 10 CTE Collaboration Day on how to market CTE Programs.  The presentation with links and handouts can be found on the website, and are available for your use! 

Remember that PFI has supported a Leadership Academy and all the resources are free!   The videos and resources could be great for classroom or professional development activities/resources.

There is no charge and lunch will be provided at each community college location for registered participants. 


 

Coordinating partners include Nebraska's six Community Colleges, the Nebraska departments of Economic Development (IT Industry Council), Education and Labor. We hope you can join us!

Statewide Career Academy Strand @ NCE Conference:  June 3 Kearney

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Chaney Mosley,  Director of the Academies of Nashville / Career and Technical Education for Metro Nashville Public Schools in Nashville, TN, will be our lead presenter for the NCE Conference Career Academy Strand, June 3. 

 

I will provide an overview of Rule 47 and the online application process, then Dr. Mosley will be presenting on the following topics: 

  • What does wall-to-wall mean? 
  • Scheduling cohorts of students 
  • How to contextualize the academic course 
  • Creating meaningful work-based learning experiences
June 4 the agenda is still tentative, but we hope to showcase Nebraska best practice and provide technical assistance to schools to build Career Academy Programs. 

PD for Middle/Jr High School Teachers in Computer Programming! 

 

UNO will be starting a new National Science Foundation funded ITEST program this summer focused on middle school teachers across the region.  The aim is to introduce middle school teachers to computer science and spark student interest in computing-enabled careers by helping teachers infuse real-world computational projects within existing courses and lessons.  Paid summer professional development will be conducted in a blended format, and ongoing support for teacher participants will be provided throughout the school year.

 

Middle and junior high school teachers from across STEM subject areas and other content disciplines (e.g., Art, Language Arts, Social Studies) are encouraged to apply.  No previous background in computer science or programming is required!

Partnerships for Innovation (PFI)  is a collaboration of Nebraska secondary and postsecondary partners focused on building a better statewide system of Career and Technical Education to improve student learning and better meet economic development priorities. PFI will do this by introducing innovation in CTE delivery systems to include Career Academies, professional development and programs of study with coordinated curriculum between secondary and postsecondary.
