RESTORING THE PAST AT WADE HOUSE

 

     Greenbush - Beginning this month and continuing through March 2017, James Willaert, Wade House Curator of Interpretation, will offer a series of public programs titled "Restoring the Past", inviting visitors to participate in hands-on historic vehicle restoration activities. The first programs of the "Restoring the Past" series will be offered on Saturdays Nov. 12 and 19, and Dec. 17, with presentations each day at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in which Wade House visitors will discover the skill and specialized tools necessary to restore a wagon or carriage.
 
During "Restoring the Past: Tools of the Trade", guests will join Charles
Jung Carriage Company, ca. 1900.
DeSmet, a character based on a restoration worker, to hear the stories behind the vehicles and learn how the restoration process works. Guests will have the opportunity to try out the tools used by restoration workers and see just how much skill is required to bring historic carriages back to their original condition.
 
Guests are encouraged to tour Wade House's 20,000 square-foot Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum, which houses Wisconsin largest collection of carriages and wagons. More than seventy percent of the vehicles on display in the museum were manufactured by the Jung Carriage Company, a carriage maker which manufactured custom vehicles in Sheboygan County in the late 19th and early 20th century. Most of the museum's vehicles were collected and restored by Wesley W. Jung, grandson of the Jung Carriage Company's founder.
 
"Restoring the Past" programs will take place at Wade House Historic Site Visitor Center and Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum located at W7965 State Highway 23. Admission is as follows: adults - $7; students/seniors - $6; children (5-17) - $3.50; Children under 5: FREE; family (up to two adults and two or more dependent children 5-17) - $19.
