"Miles & Memories" Boston Marathon Team!
|
|
Top Row: John Shea (left) and Deana Hickey; Middle Row: Kerri Conneely (left) and John Fleming; Bottom Row: Cat Steckbeck (left) and Lauren Ruffing.
|
We are so proud of six members of this year's "Miles & Memories" Boston Marathon team: Kerri Conneely, John Fleming, Deana Hickey, Lauren Ruffing, John Shea, and Cat Steckbeck. All six runners crossed the finish line on Marathon Monday!
Collectively our 2016 marathon team raised over $90,000 to support TCR. That's $5,000 above their $85,000 fundraising goal!
We're so grateful to each of our runners and to our two volunteer coaches, Crissy Straub and Malinda Dublin of Run MC Coaching, for their commitment to grieving children, teens, and families.

Happy One Year TCR Anniversary, Nicole!

April 15, 2016, marked the completion of Nicole Campbell's first year on staff as our office manager. We couldn't be happier to celebrate all that she's done in that time to help strengthen our organization.
Congratulations on your one year TCR Anniversary, Nicole! We're so happy you're here!

We're hosting a special Resiliency Panel Discussion for Teens on June 11th!
Please plan to join us for this special, bring-a-friend, Teen Program event!
Teens will have the opportunity to interact with a panel of young adults. Hear how they navigated adolescence and then branched into young adulthood, while also managing grief surrounding a past loss. Play a part in the discussion by brainstorming anonymous questions to ask the panel! This unique event will include the option for the TCR teens to invite a supportive friend!

In case you missed it, April is National Volunteer Month, and President Obama formally declared April 10 through April 16 National Volunteer Week.
We send heartfelt thanks to each of our volunteers, who contribute to TCR in so many different ways. Every day volunteers help us fulfill our mission of creating safe, supportive communities so that no child, teen, or family has to grieve alone. We could never do our work without their generous choice to give of their time and talents.
Thank you, volunteers! |

Dear Siblings:
You Are Not Alone
|
On April 10, people across the nation celebrated National Sibling Day. For so many, it is a fun, happy day. It's a day for relishing the bonds of being siblings and a great opportunity to relive childhood memories, especially through sharing old photos across social media. We recognize, however, that for those who are grieving a sibling, this day might bring up a host of conflicting emotions and unexpected challenges.
We take this moment to acknowledge all those who are grieving a sibling. As you grieve, may you continue to find your own unique ways to honor your sibling and practice self-care along the way.
Above all, we at TCR want you to know that you are not alone.

Umbrellas For Peace
|
Thank you so much to our partners at the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute for collaborating with us on this April's Umbrellas For Peace workshop series for families and individuals who are survivors of victims of homicide.
Over the course of three workshop sessions, survivors gathered at the Peace Institute to paint umbrellas with words and images memorializing those who have died and sharing messages of peace.
They will carry these umbrellas as a powerful symbol of unity and courage at the Peace Institute's 20th Annual Mother's Day Walk For Peace on May 8.

Our Heartfelt Thanks
|
Thank you for your support, and thanks to the following people for some special, recent donations.
| | Tilly (left) and her six-month-old puppy, Otis, visited TCR on April 15! | |
On April 15, we had some very special visitors at our center . . . and what a story these dogs have to tell! This winter, Tilly (wearing her pearls!) had 9 puppies in a beautiful range of black, apricot, and red. Tilly's generous owners found eight of the puppies loving homes, while Otis, who is almost six months old, stayed with mom. In lieu of adoption fees, their owners accepted money to give to TCR as a gift in memory of Arlington teen Catherine Malatesta. We are so inspired by the creative way that Tilly, Otis, and their owners honored Catherine's memory, and we're grateful for their support of TCR. Thank you so much for coming by our center!

The Children's Room has partnered with Donate for Charity to make it fast and easy to donate your old vehicle to TCR. Your vehicle will be picked up - free of charge! - from anywhere and TCR will receive a donation in the amount of the vehicle's value.
