The Vaillancourt Family

"The annual Memories Walk has become one of my favorite yearly traditions that not only brings together my friends and family and the entire Children's Room community, but many important supporters and friends of TCR. It is wonderful to see the community come together in support of an organization whose work has changed so many lives, and continues to do so."
-Sarah, TCR alum

"I am grateful as we share this time together as a bigger family, and as a wonderful community, as we carry in our hearts, and on our shirts, precious memories of those that have died, as we stroll down Massachusetts Avenue in support of life, and of the Children's Room."
-Sue, TCR parent

TCR's Deborah Rivlin on Children
& the Language of Grief

Thank you to Arlington Public News for facilitating such an informative interview with our education director, Deborah Rivlin!

Deborah discusses the challenges of talking to children about death, and how the language we use as adults can help clear up misconceptions and prevent the sharing of misinformation.

As Deborah says, "We don't protect by not giving information to children, because it's not a matter of, 'Are they going to hear it?' The question is, 'Who do you want them to hear it from?' We say the trusted adults in their lives."

Watch the three-minute video, or listen to an extended (45-minute) audio version of the conversation!

Why We Walk
Parenting While Grieving Series Begins October 21

Please join us for an 8-week Parenting While Grieving Spouse/Partner Loss series for adults beginning Wednesday, October 21.

This educational series is designed to help support parents or guardians who are grieving the death of a spouse/partner/family member who are raising children between the ages of 3-18 years old who had a parent die.

We will practice the essential parenting skills of listening, problem-solving, and setting limits within the context of a grieving family.
