Promoting Healthy Schools "for Youth, by Youth"

Healthy Living Youth Council Kick-Off Retreat a Big Success

 

The Healthy Living Youth Council had its first event of the year this month, the Kick-Off Retreat which was held at Camp Fircom on Gambier Island from November 2-4. The 12 new council members, along with two alumni members from last year's council, travelled from all across the province to attend this event, and it was a huge success! Read more here.

Free calendar available for teachers

  

BC Dairy Association is pleased to offer teachers across BC a copy of the 2014 Milk Calendar, which includes a collection of recipes from farmers across Canada. Calendars are free, and available in bulk quantities for dieticians. Order the 2014 calendar here.

Action Schools! BC Update 

Teacher Mentorship with a Trainer, and Action Plans

  

The Teacher Mentorship with a Trainer program brings hands-on professional development into the school and supports teachers with physical activity and healthy eating education. The creation of the Action Schools! BC Action Plan integrates the effort of teachers, school administrators, and other members of the school community to achieve goals in six action zones, helping to support comprehensive school health. My Healthy Workplace Challenge
Northern Health supporting healthy workplaces

 

The HYPE (Healthier You Promotions and Engagement) team at Northern Health recently held a region-wide challenge to schools and workplaces to promote health, wellness, and safety in the workplace. 80 teams participated in weekly challenges together, each week focusing on a different topic, including injury prevention, physical activity, and health eating.
