BC Agriculture in the Classroom and the Public Health Association of BC are pleased to announce that all the schools who applied for the grant received funding to start or supplement a salad bar program. What Do DASH and Kevin Bieksa of the Vancouver Canucks Have in Common?
Both participated in Youth Summit 2013: Building a Mindful Community in VancouverIn February, DASH was invited to participate in a one-day "by youth, for youth" mental health workshop and was joined by three members of the Healthy Living Youth Council, as well as over 150 secondary students and teachers from across BC. DASH asked Youth Council member and summit attendee Rylee McKinlay to write about her experience. Here's what she had to say.

Save the Date! iWalk 2013 Just Announced
iWalk Week will be October 7th to 11th
International Walk to School Week (iWalk) is an annual school-based event hosted in BC by DASH BC and HASTe. A week-long event held every year in October, iWalk encourages students, parents, staff, and community members to walk to school to promote and celebrate the many benefits of walking to school. BC Training Sessions AvailableProgram trains students to become playground leaders Spring is in the air, making this a great time to re-engage students in healthy and fun outdoor play with an Action Schools! BC Student Leadership Training session on outdoor games. BC Dairy's new video educates teachers about workshops
Providing nutrition education activities that are fun and build skills helps students develop lifelong healthy eating habits. But between lesson planning, staff meetings, union meetings, parent-teacher meetings, field trips, grading, report card writing, and supervising extracurricular activities, where do you find the time to plan for your nutrition unit and its integration into other curriculum areas? In just two minutes, this engaging new video shows teachers how the BC Dairy Association nutrition education workshops can help them teach nutrition in the classroom right away.
