Many are gathering on the sidelines of the event to put pressure on world leaders, who are in town both for the summit and the UN's opening session, to reach a global climate deal. More

Southwest Fuels the Sustainability Revolution
Major airline signs deal with Red Rocks Biofuels
Southwest Airlines has signed an agreement with Red Rocks Biofuels LLC (RRB) to purchase low carbon renewable jet fuel, made using forest residues that will help reduce the risk of destructive wildfires in the Western United States. The airline's agreement with RRB covers the purchase of approximately three million gallons per year. The blended product will be used at Southwest's Bay Area operations with first delivery expected in 2016. More

From Xeros to Sixty
Edison Award Winner lands major hotel chain contract
Environmentally friendly washing machine company Xeros said that following a contract win, it now counts four out of the world's top five hotel groups as customers.The group, a Rotherham-based spin-out from Leeds University, makes washing machines that replace most of the water with polymer beads.The beads attract stains to the bead surface, extracting dirt and producing what the company claims is a superior result compared with traditional washing machines. How a Kansas community college is turning compost into cash
Edison Award winning Johnson County Community College's (JCCC) compost initiative was launched in June 2011 under the vision and direction of Michael Rea, Recycling and Waste Minimization Coordinator with the JCCC Center for Sustainability, and in partnership with Dining Services and the Campus Farm. At JCCC, composting is about more than simply waste diversion and pollution mitigation, though that is a large part of it; it is also about conserving a valuable resource that can be reused on our campus farm, which returns fresh, seasonal produce to Dining Services for use in facilities on campus.
