Sunday's Scripture Snippet

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness.

Ephesians 6

Parish News
Kids, Join Us for Our First Service Made Just for You!
Starting this Sunday, August 30, a new monthly service created especially for families with young children will begin. The service will take place in the Parish Hall and will run concurrently with the 9:15 a.m. service. Children will participate in the service, and the sermon and music will be geared to their growing minds and faith.
Deadline Extended for Baseball with the Bishop!
The deadline for tickets to the Rays "Baseball with the Bishop" at the Red Sox game on Friday, September 11 has been extended.  If you want to join the fun with some fellow Episcopalians, please get a check to the parish office by Noon on Monday, August 30 with a note indicating who's going with you.  To facilitate ticket sales, there will be a table set up in the courtyard between services this weekend.  If you're planning on going, you can sign up then.  And...if your throwing arm hasn't had a workout in a while, we will have a pitching contest on the lawn on Orleans - if you throw 3 pitches, your name will be entered to win one free ticket to the game.  We'll even do a couple video clips in the event you'd like to give Bishop Smith a few pointers (he'll be throwing out the first pitch before the game and, based on prior years' efforts, he needs some coaching).  Kids of all ages are welcome to toss a few pitches.
Cornerstone Kids Receive Backpacks
At the start of this school year, all 35 children went back to school with new backpacks which were filled with supplies, thanks to the generosity of this parish. We well exceeded our goal of $1,200! The smiles in these pictures really tell it all. Thanks to everyone who participated in this effort!

Sandwich Sunday Volunteer Coordinator Needed

After several years of coordinating our Sandwich Sunday outreach to Faith Cafe, Amanda Sansone is taking a well-earned break, and we are looking for someone to fill her shoes. The main duties are recruiting volunteer host families/parishioners and helping assemble sandwiches and bag lunches on the third Sunday of the month. We have host families already scheduled through December 2015, but are looking for someone to take the reins now in preparation for next year. Interested in being more involved in this rewarding and vital ministry? Contact Amanda for more information about what the job entails.

Wednesday Nights at St. John's (Parish Hall)
Jesus the New Way is a magnificent account of the life and message of Jesus of Nazareth. N.T. Wright is truly one of the most outstanding contemporary Jesus scholars, which is evident throughout this entire production.

Program 6, September 2-The New Claim: Was Jesus really raised from the dead? What about all the skeptics' explanations as to why that is impossible? What did resurrection mean to first-century Jews? How does the resurrection of Jesus address our individual lives?

The Wednesday Nights at St. John's group invites all parishioners and friends to join them each week in the Parish Hall. Bring a dish to share and an open heart and mind for discussion. Contact Paul and Winkie Game at pgamefla@aol.com for more details.
