Sunday's Scripture Snippet

With all wisdom and insight he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ, as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

Youth In-Town Mission Week Info

This year our in-town mission week will focus on serving and learning about the homeless community and those living in poverty. The whole week will be spent at Metropolitan Ministries where youth will help prepare meals, volunteer in the thrift shop, and learn about the causes of poverty and homelessness. The timeframe is 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 27 through 31. The cost is $50 per person for the whole week (includes lunch each day, t-shirt, and program fee). For more info and to register, contact Chaplain HQ.

Faith Cafe Needs

Now that hot weather is here, we need men's t-shirts and shorts for the folks at Faith Café. Toiletries, underwear, and socks are also always welcome. Please bring contributions to the parish offices, and they will be taken down to Faith Café.

Questions about Faith Café? Contact Mary Jane Schenck, (home).9428, or mjschenck@ut.edu; or Sally Wiley (cell).4497, or swileytampa@aol.com.

Congratulations to Baker Family
Fr. Robert Baker, our Associate Rector and Chaplain to the School, and his wife Evelyn, along with their 4 children ages 1 to 6, are proud to announce that after a year commuting from Apollo Beach, they have purchased a home here in Tampa closer to St. John's. We congratulate them on this milestone! If you have a meal or other housewarming treat you would like to contribute to the Bakers to celebrate and be a part of this move, please call Fr. Baker at the parish offices at 259.1570 or email him. Fr. Baker loves gardening, even lawn mowing and has had large vegetable gardens and a rose garden in the past. Anyone with a green thumb might reach out to help the Bakers fill their large backyard with plants or with fun things for the kids. And prayers for their move and for happiness in their new home are also welcome and appreciated!

Contemporary Women's Bible Study (Peterson Room)

CWBS continues a study of selected passages from 1 & 2 Samuel.  This course will run through August 25.  The course is designed in such a way that if people cannot attend all the sessions, they will still find each session interesting and not dependent upon what came the week before.

The group meets on Tuesdays from 6:45 to 8:00 a.m. in the Peterson Room at the Middle Division campus. After conversation and a light breakfast (fruit & some type of bread) that members take turns bringing, the study starts at 7:00 a.m. and ends shortly before 8:00 a.m.; a few people may leave early if they have to go to work. All women of St John's and their friends are welcome; the group includes several valued members from other branches of Christ's church.  We would love to have you join us.

Wednesday Nights at St. John's (Parish Hall)

The group will continue its study of Psalms. For millennia, believers have turned to the Psalms to express praise, sorrow, gratitude, and hope. But readers have questioned: who wrote these poems and hymns and why? And how can reading and studying the Psalms help me express my own feelings to God?

This four session DVD series helps answer these questions and many more. The four sessions are (1) Psalms of Praise, (2) Psalms of Lament, (3) Psalms of Thanksgiving, and (4) Royal Psalms. Each session will guide the group through the Scriptures, cultivating a dynamic group discussion and helping them grow in a deeper relationship with God and others.

The Wednesday Nights at St. John's group invites all parishioners and friends to join them each week in the Parish Hall. Bring  a dish to share and an open heart and mind for discussion. Contact Paul and Winkie Game at pgamefla@aol.com for more details.
