Award-Winning Organist in Concert at St. John's

As you will be aware, our organ was restored and enlarged by the Tennessee firm of R.A. Colby in 2010. We continue to enjoy the rich  resources of the enhanced instrument both liturgically and in concert. On Sunday, November 23, at 5:00 p.m., we are delighted to present Benjamin Sheen in concert. Ben is Associate Organist of St. Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, New York City, and winner of the 2013 Longwood Gardens Organ Competition. He is very much a rising star of the organ world. His program will appeal to organists and non-organists alike, and we will, once again, have the big screen in place so that the audience can see the recitalist as well as hear him!

Youth News

On November 7 through 8, we will have a High School Retreat. Bring all your friends, your Bibles, and your journals for a retreat to remember. We will be watching movies, snacking, and deepening our relationship with God, all while having fun with friends!  Because of the Retreat, high school youth will not meet on Sunday. Middle school youth will meet at the regular time, 4:30 p.m., in Discovery House.

Sunday, November 9, is the Youth Volunteer Appreciation Brunch and Info Session. During the 9:15 a.m. service, youth leaders will be recognizing anyone who has volunteered or signed up to volunteer. After the service a special brunch will be held in Discovery House to say thank you for volunteering. Come and let us thank you! The info session for parents and volunteers will follow at 10:45 a.m. in the Parish Hall. You'll find out about curriculum, the calendar for the rest of the year, and more!

Contact Chaplain HQ for more information at mharrisonquillin@stjohnstampa.org.

Save the Date: Cocktails and Silent Auction in Support of St. John's Choir

More than 50 silent auction items will be available for your bidding pleasure- from beautiful art to handmade quilts to many local restaurant gift certificates. A wonderful way to relax with members of the St. John community while supporting the choir as it seeks to buy additional music for your listening pleasure.

An organizational meeting will take place on Friday, November 7 at 5:00 p.m. at 4210 West Watrous Avenue. We welcome those who can help!

"I discovered later, and I'm still discovering right up to this moment, that is it only by living completely in this world that one learns to have faith. By this-worldliness I mean living unreservedly in life's duties, problems, successes and failures. In so doing we throw ourselves completely into the arms of God, taking seriously, not our own sufferings, but those of God in the world. That, I think, is faith."  -- Dietrich Bonhoeffer

The Men's Interactive Bible Study and Lunch group will continue their fall series on alternate Thursdays at 11:45 a.m. in the Peterson Room. Lunch is sandwiches at $5 per person. RSVP to dlrncrtpa@verizon.net if you would like to partake.

Women of St. John's, friends and neighbors are invited to participate in a fall study entitled "Psalms: Songs for the Soul," based on a curriculum developed by the Rev. Gwynne Johnson (Lutheran). The psalms are a rich resource that can guide our prayers, our thinking and our life choices. They have something to teach us about each of life's seasons: times of comfort, times of difficulty and times of resolution. Each lesson will focus on a theme and psalms that speak to it.

The study continues on alternate Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. in the Lowry Room through December 9. For more information contact either Joan McKay at MCKAYJHM@aol.com or Pat Wilson at 644.4640 or patwilson68@tampabay.rr.com.
