Sunday's Scripture Snippet

Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!"  Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe."

News about St. John's Organ

The eagle-eyed among us may have noticed a sizeable space among the organ pipes on the left hand wall of the chancel. This space has been created by the temporary removal of the Imperial Trumpet rank, distinguishable by its copper colour. The 61 pipes have been professionally removed by Ron Streicher and Joe Wiessinger, who maintain our instrument, and shipped to the Reuter Organ Company of Lawrence, Kansas, where they will be fitted with new tongues, shallots (not onions, in this case!) and tuning wires. They will be regulated and voiced to speak on a lower wind pressure and thus produce a more musical and less aggressive sound. The Imperial Trumpet should be back with us sometime in June.

Women's Retreat at DaySpring

CWBS is pleased to invite women from St. John's (and their friends of any denomination) to our Annual Women's Retreat May 16 through 18 at DaySpring.  The Retreat begins Friday afternoon, May 16, and ends after lunch on Sunday, May 16.  Continuing with the theme of the contribution of women to the church, this year's topic is Women Mystics.  The Rev. Jo Popham (formerly at St. Andrew's in Calgary, Alberta) will serve as Facilitator/Chaplain.  Enjoy the beauty of DaySpring as we gather for thoughtful discussion, quiet time, music, worship, fellowship, and other activities.

Retreat fee is all inclusive (lodging, meals, book on topic, and all other supplies):  $212 for a double room (twin beds) or $284 for a private room.  There are other pricing options available for persons who cannot come for the entire weekend.  To register or for additional information, contact Peggy Curlin at pcurlin@verizon.net or 287.0176 or 690.3975.  Make checks payable to St. John's with "Women's Retreat" on the "For" line.  Space is limited, so sign up now!  NOTE: If you want to attend but the registration fee is prohibitive to your budget, talk to Father Connelly about possible financial assistance.

This group meets each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Bring a Bible, a covered dish to share, and an open heart and mind. Contact Paul and Winkie Game at pgamefla@aol.com for details.
