Sunday's Scripture Snippet

Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him." Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day." Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world."

Faure Requiem This Sunday

Composed between 1887 and 1890, this famous and haunting setting of the Roman Catholic Mass for the Dead is the best-known of Fauré's large works, and was performed at his own funeral.. The most famous movement is the soprano aria "Pie Jesu." It was not performed in the United States until 1931, and only then at a student concert at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia.

Do join us for this concert at 5:00 p.m. on Palm Sunday, April 13, in the church, for a fitting way to mark the beginning of Holy Week.

Hyde Park Celebrates Centennial

We were pleased to play host to our neighbors last Friday as we all celebrated the 100th anniversary of historic Hyde Park. Mayor Bob Buckhorn attended to make a proclamation commemorating the milestone and neighbors enjoyed ice cream and fellowship.

A Message
from the Bishop Masereka
Christian Foundation

Thirteen years ago, Bishop Zebedee Masereka and his wife Mama Stella founded the Bishop Masereka Christian Foundation to care for and educate orphans in the Rwenzori region of Uganda. Their mission expanded to open a clinic in Kasese Town to provide medical care to mothers and their children, including skilled assistance during labor and infant vaccinations. Since then, BMCF has delivered compassionate, respectful care to 20,000 patients a year and educated over 500 orphans and other vulnerable children. BMCF continues to grow, with land purchased and plans in place to build a modern hospital for the region.

Over the last 12 months, the Ugandan and BMCF boards of directors have worked together to plan how best to increase the capabilities of BMCF and establish a sustainable governance structure necessary to managing a hospital. Recognizing the need for an executive director with experience in hospital administration, Bishop Masereka has stepped aside as BMCF's Executive Director. He will continue to serve on BMCF's Board of Directors and as our ambassador, inspiration, and visionary. On March 30, the staff of the Bishop Masereka Medical Centre honored him for his leadership.

Today, we ask all of BMCF's supporters across the globe to join us in thanking Bishop Masereka and Mama Stella for their work to keep children and women safe, and for rebuilding our region through health and education. As we continue the work you began, Bishop Masereka, we thank you, and we ask that you be blessed always.

Events
The St. John's Book Club
The St. John's Book Club will meet next on Tuesday, April 15, at 4:00 p.m. in the Lowry Room.  Sally Wiley will lead the discussion of Nothing Daunted: The Unexpected Education of Two Society Girls in the West by Dorothy Wickenden. Amazon said of the book: In the summer of 1916, Dorothy Woodruff and Rosamond Underwood, bored by society luncheons, charity work, and the effete men who courted them, left their families in Auburn, New York, to teach school in the wilds of northwestern Colorado. They lived with a family of homesteaders in the Elkhead Mountains and rode to school on horseback, often in blinding blizzards. Their students walked or skied, in tattered clothes and shoes tied together with string. The young cattle rancher who had lured them west, Ferry Carpenter, had promised them the adventure of a lifetime. He hadn't let on that they would be considered dazzling prospective brides for the locals.

Everyone is welcome to attend Book Club. Please join us!
