Events
Youth Movie Outing

Youth, join Chaplain Harrison-Quillin on Thursday, March 13, for the movie Son of God, a dramatic depiction of the life of our Lord.  From the movie's website: "Now, the larger-than-life story of The New Testament gets a larger-than life treatment in the stand-alone feature Son of God (rated PG-13). Told with the scope and scale of an action epic, the film features powerful performances, exotic locales, dazzling visual effects and a rich orchestral score from Oscar®-winner Hans Zimmer."

The group will meet in the lobby of the movie theatres at Westshore Plaza at 5:30 p.m., have dinner, and see the 6:15 p.m. showing of Son of God. Pick up will be at 9:00 p.m. at Westshore Plaza. Email Chaplain HQ to RSVP at mharrisonquillin@stjohnstampa.org.

Wednesday Lenten Series:
Conversations that Matter Begin Tonight

"When an enormous spiritual hunger grows among people, churches may not always be the best places to offer "solid food." Meals with friends who have developed the art of spiritual communication might be much better places." -  Henri Nouwen

Donna Meagher Gem and Alex Gem will be hosting a "Happy Hour" each week during Lent! Join us at 5:45 p.m. each Wednesday evening for a fun little prelude to the Lenten program.  Enjoy some wine, cheese, and other yummy appetizers (non-alcoholic beverages will also be served), while we play the "Who Am I?" game.  You will be surprised and amazed to learn some interesting facts about the staff, clergy, and Vestry of St. John's that you never would have guessed in a million years.  So come early each Wednesday evening and spend some time socializing in the courtyard prior to the Lenten dinners.

You won't have to figure out where to sit during dinner because you will have a table assignment--maybe next to someone you may not know very well (or at all). And you won't have to figure out what to talk about with others at your table because there will be discussion questions related to the evening's topic. Just in case you were thinking of not speaking a word, there will be a facilitator to make sure everyone gets a chance to talk (of course, you could still keep silent if that is your preference).

Tonight's topic is You Only Have to Die: Leading Your Congregation to New Life led by The Rev. James Harnish, Senior Pastor of Hyde Park United Methodist. The Rev. Harnish's book of the same name is available in the parish offices for check-out.  Next week, on March 19, we are honored to host The Rt. Rev. Dabney Smith, Bishop of Southwest Florida, who will speak on the topic The Episcopal Church in the Twenty-First Century: How Do We Grow?

All Wednesday events will take place in the Parish Hall from 6:15 to 8:00 p.m., following the Happy Hour at 5:45 p.m. Dinner and childcare will be provided. For more information, click here to download a flyer about the Wednesday events.

We want to be good stewards of our resources, so RSVP to parish@stjohnstampa.org or 259.1570 by the Monday before each event so we can get a good count for dinner and so that we can make sure we have adequate staff for childcare.
