St. John's Supports Cornerstone Kids at the Annual Lincoln-Douglass Ball
St. John's parishioners were out in force at the annual Lincoln-Douglass Ball to benefit our outreach partner, Cornerstone Kids!  All those pictured, as well as Fr. Chip Connelly, were in attendance for the dinner and dancing.  This was the best representation by our parish yet!  Thanks to all those who attended to support this worthy cause.

Annual Choir Benefit Concert

St. John's Choir will present their Annual Benefit Concert in the Church on Sunday, February 23 at 5:00 p.m. Central to the program will be Benjamin Britten's cantata "Rejoice in the Lamb." Composed by Britten in 1943 and based on the poem Jubilate Agno by Christopher Smart (1722-1771), the text was written while Smart, who was of unbalanced mind, was in an asylum, and depicts idiosyncratic praise and worship of God by all created beings and things, each in its own way. The work is scored for four soloists, choir, and organ. Simon Morley directs the choir, with guest organist Simon Jacobs making a return visit to St. John's to accompany.

The concert is free and open to the public.  A reception, to which all are warmly invited, will follow in the Parish Hall.

Organ Recital at University of Tampa

Will Feature Our Own Simon Morley

The University of Tampa are presenting weekly organ demonstrations on the new Dobson organ in the Sykes Chapel for Faith and Values. These short recitals are on Fridays at 12:00 noon, and last for around thirty minutes. Our own Organist and Choirmaster, Simon Morley, will play the recital on Friday, March 7th at 12:00 noon. Admission is free, and the new chapel and organ, if you haven't seen or heard them, are quite stunning. Simon invites you to drop in if you are in the vicinity of UT.

Choral Evensong

Join us as the St. John's School Middle Division Choir leads us in traditional choral evening prayer on Sunday, March 9, at 5:00 p.m.  An important service in the Anglican tradition since the sixteenth century, Evensong is sung daily in English Cathedrals and Collegiate Chapels at the close of day. Two lessons from scripture are read, prayers are said and sung, and the choir offers psalms, canticles and an anthem.
