Honoring our past as a 101-year old South Tampa parish, and our fine roots as Christians in the Episcopal tradition, we move confidently into the future, with our trust in God and in His plan for us as His people. Offices Closed Today

A reminder that the parish offices are closed today.  We will open tomorrow for regular hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  

A Special Men's Ministry Event:

Tuesday, January 7, 6:00 p.m.

Join us on Tuesday, January 7, at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall for a very special Men's Ministry meeting as we welcome speaker Mark Merrill, president and founder of Family First.  Family First is a widely respected national non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the family. Family First promotes principles for building marriages and raising children through three successful programs.  Mark is also the co-founder, with Tony Dungy, of All Pro Dad.  Click here to see Mark's full bio.

 

We will also have our usual fine dining!  For this month only, RSVP to Ron Walker at rwalker@walkerbrands.com if you plan to attend so we can get a count for food.  The cost is $12 and we need your RSVP by noon this Friday, January 3. 

 

Also, mark your calendar for Tuesday, February 4, at 6:00 p.m. when the Men's Ministry hosts Jay Crouse, author and men's ministry expert!

for Her Harp Ministry  



Sharon Stoll, parishioner and vestry member, was featured this week in the Tampa Tribune for her work with the harp.  Congratulations to Sharon for being recognized, we know that she brings so much comfort with her music and ministry to the seriously ill.

We have been very pleased to welcome Kevin Page back to St. John's over the Christmas period. Kevin was a boy chorister in the choir prior to becoming Assistant Organist, and has just completed his first semester at Georgia Tech. We are very grateful to him for playing at our services this past Sunday, as well as for the accompanying he did  at the annual Christmas Concert, Christmas Lessons and Carols, and Christmas Eve services.

Notice of Annual Meeting 

Please join us for the annual meeting of the parish in Rudisill Parish Hall on January 19, at 11:15 a.m. following a combined service at 10:00 a.m.  At this meeting, the parish finances and annual report will be reviewed.  The vestry has been frozen by the Bishop, therefore there will not be vestry elections at this meeting. 

We will also enjoy a Parish Breakfast and Sandwich Sunday on this day.  Thanks to our Sandwich Sunday hosts, the Morales family!

The Circle Winter Cocktail Party 

 On Friday, January 10, at 7:00 p.m., the Circle group invites you to join us for cocktails.  The event will be hosted by Ken and Laine Walker and Steve and Lynn Stanford at the Walkers' home. Guests are asked to bring a beverage of their choice and/or an hors d'oeuvre to share, our hosts will provide something sweet.

Attend the Annual Lincoln & Douglass Ball  

The event, which benefits St. John's outreach partner Cornerstone Kids, will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom at the Embassy Suites, 3705 Spectrum Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33612.

Dress is formal; there will be a cash bar, a dinner and dancing. A raffle will also benefit Cornerstone Kids. Email o.leggett@cornerstonekidsinc.org for more information or to purchase tickets.

We are very excited about the direction God is calling us in the year to come!  Working together, we will accomplish great things for the Lord.

Contemporary Women's Bible Study (Peterson Room)  
CWBS resumes Tuesday, January 7, at 6:45 a.m. in the Peterson Room at the School's Middle Division campus.  All women of St. John's and their friends of other denominations are welcome to join the group for a light breakfast and discussion of important books of the Bible. Women's Mid Morning Bible Study (Lowry Room) 
On Tuesday, January 7, the Women's Mid Morning Bible Study will resume its study of "The Acts of the Apostles," the dramatic narrative of the origins of the Christian church, attributed to the apostle Luke.  The Rev. Alan Bever, retired, will guide their study of Acts 13 and 14, "Paul Preaches the Gospel in Asia Minor."

Men's Thursday Interactive Bible Study and Luncheon

On Thursday, January 9, at 11:45 a.m. in the Peterson Room, the Rev. Youth Group Activities Resume 

Middle school youth group and high school Bible study will resume on Sunday, January 12. Both meet at the Youth House at the School's Middle Division campus.  Middle school meets at 4:00 p.m. and high school Bible study begins at 6:30 p.m.

 

Please mark your calendars for an important youth parent meeting on Thursday, January 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Chaplain Miranda Harrison-Quillin, our Youth Director, will give out the calendar for the rest of the year, talk about our mission trip, camp, retreats, and much more.  Please join us to learn about the exciting plans!  Contact Chaplain Harrison-Quillin for more details.

Safeguarding God's Children

This training is required by the Diocese of Southwest Florida for everyone who works with children or youth (Sunday School teachers, assistants, nursery personnel, youth ministers), eucharistic visitors, clergy, church staff, and vestry members. Once you take the original class, your certification is active for five years and then can be renewed via a brief online review program.

 

The training will take place at Lamb of God Episcopal Lutheran Church, 19691 Cypress View Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33967-6217 on Saturday, January 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. To register, contact Wendy Smith at Church Office (239) 267-3525 Ext. 223 or e-mail Wendy@lambofgodchurch.net
