Senior Sunday

Sunday, May 12, 9:00 a.m.

Join us to congratulate and pay tribute to our graduating high school seniors!  The graduates will be honored at the 9:00 a.m. service, and some of them will also give addresses, which will be in lieu of the sermon at this service.

A reception will follow in Rudisill Parish Hall. Join us to celebrate these parishioners as they enter this exciting new stage in their lives!

A Note from Mr. Morley

Dear Choristers and Parents,

My thanks for a very successful service of Choral Evensong yesterday. The congregation, while modest in size, was very appreciative, with many expressing the desire to increase the number of times we do this service!

Special recognition must go to Ben Graham who, at very short notice, gave an outstanding performance of the treble solo in Blessed be the God and Father. We are very proud of him. I am grateful too to Michael Hunter and Steve Rosser, organist and tenor respectively at St. Andrew's, for their helping us in presenting and covering in the tenor section.

I want also to highlight Kevin Page's organ accompaniment, which was very fine, drawing out the best colour from our instrument in accompaniments that are far from straightforward.

The receptions that follow these events are an important part of the evening, and we are very grateful to Kathleen Purdy and Ginny VanOsdol for their organization of the reception, as well as Ken Johnston, our sexton, who is a great supporter of the choir, and who stayed on to cover the service and reception at the end of what was a very long day for him.

Thank you again, and well done!

With all good wishes,

Simon Morley

Saturday, May 18, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
St. Mary's Episcopal Church
Centering Prayer is a form of meditation designed to facilitate the development of Contemplative Prayer: the opening of heart and mind - our whole being - to GOD, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words, and emotions. St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Tampa will be hosting an introductory workshop on Centering Prayer on Saturday, May 18, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., in St. Mary's Hall. The group is asking for a donation of $20 to cover the cost of lunch and 2 additional three-hour sessions. The additional sessions will be held on May 25 and June 15 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, at which time the group will practice Centering Prayer, discuss their experiences, and watch a video by Fr. Thomas Keating.

The deadline to signup is May 15. Please contact Polly Nelson at 805.2219 with any questions or to learn more about this spiritual practice.

The 13th Annual Mother's Day Ingathering for the  Mothers and Babies of Alpha House

May 12, 2013

While Mom will get lots of "Luvs" and "Huggies" on her special day, remember that others need to be pampered too! We can help the mothers and babies at Alpha House by bringing "Wish List" items on (or before) Mother's Day Sunday, May 12. Collection bags are available at the reception desk outside of the parish offices. Cash and gently used in-kind donations are also appreciated. All donations will be collected in the garth prior to all three services on Mother's Day, or drop off in the parish offices before May 12.

Children's Wish List items include: Diapers (all sizes including pull ups), wipes, baby food, bibs, clothing (infant though age 3) , baby wash and shampoo, diaper rash cream, sunscreen, Aquaphor products, crib sheets, strollers and car seats (infant and toddler), baby monitors, new undergarments and socks, toys.

Mother's Wish List items include: gift cards (grocery, Wal-Mart, etc.), towels/wash cloths, twin sized bedding/pillows, full size toiletry (alcohol-free/Aveeno oatmeal products), sanitary items, grooming items for nails and hair, perfume, makeup, plastic storage bins, non-disposable plastic dishes and cups, flatware, bus passes, wallets, stationary and stamps, books, Band-Aids, Cetaphil cleanser, antiseptic and hydrocortisone products, lanolin, new undergarments and slippers.

Alpha House is an accredited, not-for-profit, local organization that was founded in 1981. Its mission is "to offer homeless pregnant women and mothers with young children safe housing and the tools they need to become self-sufficient, effective and responsible parents". This mission is accomplished through the provision of "safe housing, education, counseling, parenting and life skills training, vocational assistance, and spiritual support." The women live in the 20-bed maternity home or in the post-birth transitional apartments. The agency serves about 200 pregnant or parenting women and children each year.
