Parish Picnic and Baptism
After a joyful celebration of the Eucharist and a baptism where we welcomed two of the world's newest Christians to our family, another delightful Parish Picnic was enjoyed by a large crowd of parishioners and friends this past Sunday, April 7.  The weather was truly perfect, and the food was tasty and plentiful.  Thanks to the FATHERS for again taking on the grill duty, and to resident chef, Dave Kenyon, for purchasing the food and making two delicious cobblers for dessert.  Food, fun, and fellowship!

Thanks to Keith Lindquist for the photos!
Facilities Update
ARC Hearing
Procedurally, items such as our proposed development must be first approved by the ARC (Architectural Review Commission), followed by approval by City Council. St. John's was originally scheduled to go before the ARC this month
. We asked for and received an extension and the hearing will now take place in June.  We did this because we wanted to have adequate time to address concerns expressed by HPPI's (Hyde Park Preservation, Inc.) representatives after our team met with them, as well as share the revised plans with our immediate neighbors.

City Council Hearing

Last week, St. John's application was placed on the May 9, 2013, City Council Public Hearing Agenda.  However, the ARC hearing must be held in advance of this hearing, so we will be requesting a continuance from May 9 to June 13.

  • Because the City Council hearing is currently set for May 9, we were required to post three signs yesterday, Tuesday, April 9, on the Church/School property, giving notice of our request and the date and time of this initial public hearing.  The signs note the date of the hearing as May 9, 2013, even though we will be requesting a continuance.  The signs are along Morrison Avenue, Orleans Avenue, and the alley to the south.
  • We have sent out by certified mail, return receipt requested, a "Good Neighbor Notice" of this Public Hearing (which was required to include the May 9, 2013 date), to the property owners within 250 feet of the church/school property, as well as to the neighborhood associations that have requested to receive notices.
  • We sent an email through HPPI (Hyde Park Preservation, Inc.) to all neighbors, letting them know about this change, and also letting them know of our plan to request a continuance.

Current Status of Plans and Renderings

Following meetings with HPPI and their Board, our Building Committee revised the plans for our renovation. The renderings of the revised plans are being finalized now and will be shared with our neighbors and the various groups of the church and school soon.

We have a commitment to open communication with our neighbors, and look forward to a long, productive, and positive relationship with them and our neighborhood association.

  • Cars may not park in designated "no parking" zones, even for a brief time.
  • Posted speed limits must be adhered to at all times.
