Uganda Event Celebrates Our Successes

Thursday evening, November 15, was a day for celebration as representatives from Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, St. John's Church, and USF College of Public Health, gathered at the home of Debbie and Chris Kavouklis to reflect on the success we have had in helping our friends in Uganda at St. John's sister school, Kamaiba Primary School, and at the Bishop Masereka Medical Center.  Pictured are hosts from St. John's and Palma Ceia Presbyterian: Nicki Weekes, Leland Baldwin, BJ Johns, Corinne Gaertner, and Peggy Curlin.

USF Chapel Center 50th Anniversary

On Sunday, November 18th, a 50th Anniversary Eucharist celebration was held at St. Anselm's Chapel of the USF Chapel Center. Included were reflections and remembrances by former chaplains as well as other volunteers. Bishop Dabney Smith also emphasized Diocesan support for this campus ministry.

This ministry has been supported by St. John's for many years with Kathleen Moore as our bridge builder. In addition to Kathleen, attending the ceremony from St. John's were Carol Ihrig, Nicki Weekes, and Sally Thompson.  More information can be found on the Chapel Center website, http://usfchapelcenter.org/ or on St. John's Facebook page.

Angel Tree Season is Here!

Final Angel Tag Pick Up Day: This Sunday, November 25

Angel Tree Party: Saturday, December 8, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This year we are fortunate to have 180 children assigned to St. John's! Please stop in the Garth following the 9:00 a.m. service on November 25 to select your angels from the tree. While there, take the opportunity to sign up to be a driver or helper on the day of the party.  Gifts should be returned to the church by Sunday, December 2.

Angel Tree is a ministry that reaches out to

the children of prison inmates and their families with the love of Christ. This unique program gives our church an opportunity to share Christ's love by helping to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the families of prisoners.

Our party this year is on Saturday, December 8, and we hope everyone will want to participate. As always, the organizers need volunteers to help with the party, as well as cash donations to help with our expenses.  We particularly need help with the craft table at the party.  If you are able to help us with that, please contact Pamela Price at pvnprice@verizon.net.  PLEASE BE AN ANGEL AND HELP!! Questions? Email Ginny VanOsdol at ginny@towntoiles.com.

Welcome to Our Newest St. John's Family Members!
Welcome to Jovani Isaac, born to Esther Santiago and Larry Hicks on July 29, 2012.  Big brother Jeremiah and grandmother Yvonne Santiago share in their joy!

We also welcome Sloane Cassidy Dring, born September 27, 2012, to
Jarret and Samantha Dring. Sloane weighed 8 pounds.

Heavenly Father, you sent your own Son into this world.  We thank you for the life of these children, Jovani and Sloane, entrusted to our care.  Help us to remember that we are all your children, and so to love and nurture them, that they may attain to that full stature intended for them in your eternal kingdom; for the sake of your dear Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

At 10:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, we will hold our traditional Thanksgiving Day service.  Our choir has been preparing some wonderful music for the occasion including the Magnificat in D of E.J. Moeran.  What better way to celebrate this uniquely American holiday than by exercising the central freedom the pilgrims worked so hard to achieve for all of us: the freedom to worship as we wish!

Women's Advent Retreat: A Child Is Born

How about a day of study, quiet contemplation, music, and fellowship between the busy-ness of Thanksgiving and the rush of Christmas?  The ladies of the Contemporary Women's Bible Study (CWBS) invite the women and friends of St. John Episcopal Church to an Advent Retreat, on December 1, 2012, in Rudisill Parish Hall, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.  Join them for prayer, Bible study, contemplative and empowering music,  fellowship, and more as we prepare ourselves for the arrival of our Savior and the first season of the church year.  CWBS will be providing a continental breakfast and a light lunch - just come, get to know some of your sisters on the journey, and take a break from the hectic-ness that invariably accompanies this Season of Peace.  Come for the day or just through lunch if a full day is already out of reach!  RSVP to Robin Johnson, at rljohnson4@verizon.net or 837.1627, Nicki Weekes at wickersnic@yahoo.com, Debra McMaster at demcmaster@verizon.net, or Sharon Stoll at harpwings@aol.com or 258.8725.
