Happy Ice Cream Month! To honor our country, we are doing a special promotion on Independence Day, Monday, July 4. Anyone who can recite the Pledge of Allegiance from memory that day will receive a free small cone!

Hansen's Dairy Waterloo and Cedar Falls stores will be open regular hours that day --
8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Waterloo location marks 10th year

Thank you to everyone who came out to Hansen's Dairy Waterloo to help us celebrate our 10th anniversary in June! About 300 customers enjoyed a locally-sourced lunch from Hansen's and free samples from Grubbs Popcorn, Try Pie and Great River Maple. Mona Payne of Waterloo was the winner of our $50 gift card giveaway.

Now that the 2-year-long Kimball Avenue road construction is complete, our building facade has been updated, and our new exterior signage is installed, this party marked a grand reopening. We thank our customers for your loyalty and support over the past 10 years.

Customer of the Month

The July Customer of the Month is Mary Winkelpleck of Coralville.

Mary first started shopping at Hansen's Dairy in Waterloo in 2007.

"As a serious cheese-ophile, I couldn't stop myself from popping in once a week (or more often!) for the fresh cheese curds. And there aren't any better curds available!" Mary said. "From there I branched out to your milk, butter and ice cream. I've never been disappointed. The staff and products you sell are always top-notch!"

Her favorite Hansen's product is butter. "I love baking and make candy. When I use your butter, I am confident that I'm giving people the best goods made from the freshest and best ingredients!"

Cow of the Month

The July Cow of the Month is Jazzie. Jazzie is a 3 1/2 year old cow who has had two heifers: Jubilee (2015) and Japan (2016). This month, Jazzie is our highest producing cow.

With the heat of summer, Jazzie is still producing 120 pounds a day (that's 14 gallons)! Our cows' average is 86 pounds (10 gallons) per day. Certain times of the year, the cows can get heat stressed and each cow can lose up to 20% of their milk production. We try to reduce this stress with fans and sprinklers in the barn and air conditioning in the milking parlor. Jazzie continues to impress us with her dynamic production even when the heat is on.

Cooking with Hansen's

Lemon Butter Pasta Sauce

Yield: 5 servings

Total Time: 25 minutes

This is a light yet flavorful dish. The starred ingredients can be purchased at Hansen's Dairy stores.

INGREDIENTS

1 pound freshly prepared angel hair pasta
4 Tbsp Hansen's Butter*
2 Tbsp prepared minced garlic
1/2 c. white wine
2 c. chicken broth
4 Tbsp capers
7 Tbsp REAL Lemon Juice

Optional:

Saut�ed chicken breast
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese*

DIRECTIONS

Melt 2 Tbsp butter in frying pan. Add drained garlic and saut� until golden brown. Add wine and simmer on medium heat until reduced by half. Continue on medium heat. Add chicken broth, lemon juice and capers. Simmer until reduced by half, again. Add final 2 Tbsp of butter, stirring until melted. Remove from heat. Pour over freshly prepared pasta and let set for 5 minutes. Top with optional chicken and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Enjoy!

Every month we mark several of our gallon milk jugs with either $5 or $100 under the label. Look inside the jug toward the label to see a "5" or "100". There are 10 jugs EVERY WEEK marked with a $5.00 prize. There will be five lucky jugs marked with $100 in July.
