December 2015

Merry Christmas
and Happy Holidays!

We at Hansen's Farm Fresh Dairy hope you have a wonderful holiday season and blessed New Year.

We also give thanks for all of our blessings. We so appreciate all the support from our loyal customers, employees and vendors. Our goal is to provide local, nutritious and delicious dairy products from our family to yours. May your holiday season be joyous, bountiful and blessed.

Please take time to appreciate the simple joys of life as this time of the year is undoubtedly hectic
Order holiday hams
Hansen hams are once again available for the holidays. If you purchased a ham from us last year, expect a call from us to see if you'd like another one this year. You may also stop by or call Moo Roo in Waterloo (319-234-3309) or Hansen's Outlet in Cedar Falls (319-266-3044) to order. The deadline to order your ham is Thursday, Dec. 10, with the earliest pick up date on Monday, Dec. 14.

Hansen's Hams come fresh, not frozen, from Webster City Custom Meats in Webster City, Iowa. They are bone-in, shankless, cured only with their own natural juices, certified hickory-smoked hams made especially for Hansen's customers. There are two sizes: half hams (7-9 pounds, serves 10) and whole hams (15-18 pounds, serves 20). The half hams are $4.75 per pound and the whole hams are $4.25 per pound.

NOTE: If you order a ham from the Cedar Falls Outlet, you will pick it up from the Outlet. Customers who order from the Waterloo Moo Roo will pick up at Moo Roo.

We are able to ship hams if needed. Shipping and packaging charges will apply.

Practical, unique, local gifts
Here are several great holiday gift ideas you can get from Hansen's Dairy stores!

1) Drinking glasses. These 13 oz. clear glasses are adorned with new Hansen's Dairy logo. Buy separately for $5 each or a set of four glasses in any color (red and teal) for $16. We still have just a few of our previous glasses.

2) T-shirts and sweatshirts. We have many colors, sizes and styles featuring our new multi-color logo.

3) Cheese slicers. These have our new logo as well! Our cheese slicers are available at all locations in teal, and would make a great stocking stuffer for a cheese lover.

4) A gift basket of locally made items. You already know about our customizable cheese baskets. You can also make your own goodie assortment. Take a Hansen's insulated bag and fill with our dairy products like milk, cream, butter, cheese curds and ice cream. Or make an all-Iowa breakfast basket with bacon, eggs, butter and syrup. You can even do a pampering gift basket with local soaps, candles and lip balms. The possibilities are endless!

5) Gift cards. You can never go wrong with our gift cards, especially when they allow your dollar to stretch further! Your gift card automatically enrolls the recipient as a member of either Moo Roo or the Outlet. Memberships allow users to get 20% off Hansen's milk and 10% off other dairy products. That means a gift card purchased for $30 can entitle the user to up to $36 of milk. Just remember, cards are not transferable between stores so buy the card where the recipient likely will shop.
Yes, we have new labels!

Our new milk labels have made their debut on the shelves! Don't worry, it's just a new look with the same great taste :) The old labels will continue to be used until they are gone, so the new labels will be gradually introduced as they run out. As of right now, new labels are only on the 1% jugs.

We introduced more information on the label. Our milk is (and always has been):

1) single source, produced only from the cows born and raised on our farm in Hudson;
2) creamline (non-homogenized), which is why our new tagline is "Shake, Shake, Pour"; and
3) produced without the use of growth hormones.

Plus, we encourage consumers to tour the farm to see how milk gets from the cow to the table. We hope you like our new look!
Cow of the Month

The December Cow of the Month is Martina. Also pictured is her most recent calf, whose sire (father), Astronaut, was born in 1962. A Facebook naming contest gave us the idea to name her Methuselah!

Martina will be 9 years old on Dec. 21 and has had 8 calves in her life -- five heifers and three bulls. Martina has produced 142,147 pounds of milk to date. She produces a high butterfat percentage at 4.0% while the average is 3.6%.

Martina is kind of a crazy cow who doesn't enjoy people. She does appreciate that we let her do her own thing. But she is a strong, well-built cow who passes on those genetics to her offspring.
Festival of Cheese success / Kimball Avenue is open!
Thank you to all who came to our Festival of Cheese on Nov. 28 at Moo Roo! We gave away free peppermint soft-serve cones, Sidecar Coffee and hot chocolate, plus sampled a wide variety of cheeses and our ham. John Klahsen of Aplington won our holiday ham giveway, and Phil Martens of Waterloo won the cheese basket.

The event also served as a "grand reopening" of sorts as the Kimball Avenue road construction is mostly complete. Hope to see all of you at Moo Roo again soon!
Cash Cow
Congrats to our November CA$H COW contest big winners! Katie Phillips and Justin Furland, both of Waterloo, each found $100 jugs. Justin was also lucky enough to find a $5 winner as well.

Every month we mark several of our gallon milk jugs with either $5 or $100 under the label.

There will be eight jugs marked with $100 in December!

There are also 10 jugs EVERY WEEK marked with a $5.00 prize.
