CA$H COWWe had a $100 winner last month in our CA$H COW Contest! Congrats to Karen Halsor of Waverly. Kudos also go to this month's $5 winners: Travis Duncan, Nancy and Jim Bell, Craig Groothuis of Nashua and Steve Brodie of Waterloo.

Every month we mark several of our milk jugs with either $5 or $100 under the label for our CA$H COW contest. It's hard to get the label off cleanly, so the easiest way to check your jug is just finish the milk and look inside at the label. There will either be a "5" or a "100" if you're a winner!

It's possible to find winning jugs of all kinds of milk we sell (skim, 1%, whole and chocolate).

Our contest starts over in January, so we will have just one jug marked with $100. Your best chance to find it is in the next few days!

The ladies in the barn had fun counting down the 12 cows of Christmas on Facebook last month. They also want to wish you a Happy Moo Year!

The stores are closed for the holiday today. Both Moo Roo and Hansen's Outlet also will be closing at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, for the Hansens' employee holiday party.

MONSTER COW - Our new cow stands out from the rest of the herd! She is waiting to make appearances around town. She'll get a new paint job and a name, but for now the 10-foot tall cow is standing watch over the farm and tour center in Hudson.

Festival of Cheese

Thanks for attending our Festival of Cheese event at Moo Roo in December. Visitors got to sample a variety of cheeses, our peppermint soft-serve ice cream, Hansen's Hams, Hansen's hot chocolate and Sidecar Coffee. Hopefully people got to taste something new and will keep coming back for more! Congrats to Pam Thomas for winning the cheese basket giveaway and to Jordan Dunn for winning the marble cheese slicer.

Cow of the Month
  The January Cow of the Month is Linnea. She is 3 years old and is the mother of this famous little Santa calf we featured on our Facebook page on Dec. 20. The newborn got a lot of looks and a lot of likes! We ended up naming her La-Z-Girl because of the special seat she got in the cow office for her picture.

Linnea is truly a nice cow to work with and has the potential to produce a lot of milk. If only she knew how famous her little girl was!

Teacher Supplement Grants

Hey teachers! Bring your class to Hansen's Dairy Farm with the help of this grant. The Iowa Agricultural Literacy Foundation in partnership with the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation is offering grants of up to $200 to support the integration of agriculture into regular classroom instruction and after-school programs. These grants are designed to initiate new projects or expand existing projects that promote agricultural literacy, and can be used to fund innovative lessons, activities, classroom resources, guest speakers, outreach programs, field trips, and other projects.

Cooking with Hansen's

Lima Beans with Cream

Ingredients:
1 package frozen Fordhook lima beans
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 cup Hansen's heavy cream

Directions:
Thaw the lima beans. In a medium saucepan, cover with water and add the salt. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat slightly to simmer for about 10 minutes or until the beans are tender. Drain the beans and return them to the pan. Add the pepper and cream and bring to a slow simmer over medium heat. Cook until the cream has thickened slightly, about 10 more minutes, stirring frequently. Add more salt and pepper to taste before serving. It's great with mashed potatoes!!
