CA$H COW
|
Congrats to our CA$H COW winners last month! Lori Workman of Waterloo, Thomas Alferink of Jesup, and Laurie Reincheld each found a $5 jug. Since no one found any $100 jugs, we will add one to the pot.
In August, we will mark 5 jugs with $100 (look inside the jug at your label when it's empty). Since we mark them at the beginning of the month, your best chance to find a large prize is in the next few days!
There are also 10 jugs EVERY WEEK marked with a $5.00 prize. View details here on our website.

Cow of the Month
The August Cow of the Month is Breezy. She is 3 and a half years old and has had two calves, a bull and a heifer.
Some of you may remember Breezy from our Facebook photo (above) on July 29. Her calf scooted under the electric fence and Breezy couldn't get to her! The post generated 86 comments when herd manager Blake Hansen requested B names for the calf. We thought the best name was very fitting: Bandit (pictured at right).
Breezy is a quiet individual -- when she is not crying for her baby! She is short, stocky and very strong. This strength will be an important asset to her longevity on the farm. And hopefully Bandit's as well!

 Cooking with Hansen's
We've had such beautiful weather this summer - it's almost possible to believe that it's still spring. Maybe that's why we're in the mood for fresh, spring-like flavors for breakfast, lunch and dinner. These parfait variations can satisfy cravings any time of day!
Parfait Formula (makes 4 parfaits) - Whipped cream, yogurt, or a mix (about 2 cups)
- Roughly chopped fruit or berries (about 2 cups)
- Granola and/or chopped nuts (about 2 cups)
- Optional - honey, melted chocolate, or maple syrup to drizzle over the top, mint leaves or chopped dark chocolate as garnish
Directions: Layer ingredients into four glasses - mason jars, wine glasses, tumblers, or glass bowls (or, if you're not serving - any bowl you've got handy). Start with a layer of fruit, then granola/nuts, cream, fruit, granola/nuts, and finish with cream. Each parfait should get a total of about 1/2 cup of each ingredient. Drizzle with honey or maple syrup, garnish with mint leaves or chopped chocolate to finish. Here are a few ideas to get you started. Get inspired and come up with your own variations! Honey Whipped Cream Parfait Using electric beaters, whip 1 cup Hansen's heavy cream with 3 tablespoons honey (this will make about 2 cups of whipped cream). This is absolutely delicious with cut up oranges and almonds!
Whipped Cream Cheese Parfait Whip 1 cup Hansen's heavy cream until soft peaks form. In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup plain yogurt, such as Kalona or Countryview, and 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese (softened) together until fluffy. Fold in the whipped cream. Layer with Big Sky granola and berries or chopped peaches.
Yogurt Parfait Whip 1 cup Hansen's heavy cream. Gently mix in 1 cup of vanilla yogurt (such as Kalona or Country View). Layer with berries and chopped nuts. Mmmm....
