Our March Customer of the Month is Lindsey Christensen of Waterloo!

Cash Cow |
There were no big CA$H COW winners in February, so in March, we will mark 3 jugs with $100 (look inside the jug at your label when it's empty). Since we mark them at the beginning of the month, your best chance to find a large prize is in the next few days!
Remember, there are still 10 jugs EVERY WEEK marked with a $5.00 prize. View details here on our website.
There was only one $5 winner this month to report: John Neely of Waterloo. Keep your eyes open! |

Cow of the Month
|
March's Cow of the Month is
Leche. She was born March 11, 2010, so she will turn 3 this month. Leche has given birth to one heifer (Leticia) and one bull.
Leche is as white as milk, which is what her name means in Spanish! She doesn't have many black spots on her. She is well behaved in the barn and is a nicely built dairy cow, meaning she should be around for awhile.
In her first lactation she was slightly below average on her milk production (19,511 lbs) compared to her herdmates. But she just started her second lactation and is off to a great start!

It's tour time
| We are ramping up for tour season again. Come out to see how milk gets from the farm to your table! Take a hands-on tour for $10 and ride down to the farm on the trolley, milk a cow, feed a calf, make butter and eat ice cream. New this year is the chance to pet a young kangaroo! For more information, check out our website. To read more about the kangaroos, read our blog.

You've met the Hansens, now meet the rest of the crew This month, say hello to all of the employees at the Waterloo Moo Roo! In no particular order... Richard Christie Born in Waterloo, Richard comes from a long line of farmers and immigrants. His forefathers are mostly of Scandinavian origin. His family has been in business in Cedar Falls since the 1940s. He is an avid cook, baker and gardener. Richard graduated with a degree in marketing from UNI in 1971 and has a life-long history of customer service. He looks forward to your visit and serving your needs. Richard and his wife Linda of 35 years have four children and three grandchildren.
Kayla Davis I'm 17 and a junior at Cedar Falls High School. I've worked at Moo Roo since June 2012. Ever since I met Sheila at age 14, I've wanted to work here because of the family feel it has and of course the amazing ice cream! I plan to go to UNI to study forensics and behavioral psychiatry while being enlisted in Navy Reserve to study cryptology. However, I have and plan to continue working at a camp during the summers for kids who have to deal with abuse, for it has become a huge passion of mine. Alex Fowler I have been working here for one year. I am currently going to school at Hawkeye Community College to get my liberal arts degree. In the future I plan to transfer to UNI for my teaching degree and become a teacher for children with disabilities.
Shawn Dewey
I'm originally from Sumner, Iowa. I have a Graphic Communications degree from Hawkeye as well as an AA, and I'm currently attending UNI for Communications: Electronic Media. I enjoy watching sports, cooking, exercising, and playing club rugby.
Rebekah Pakala I've worked for Hansen's Dairy at their Waterloo store for almost 7 years now. I enjoy helping customers! When I'm not working I'm usually babysitting or working on some fabulous new Pinterest idea! :) Aaron French I'm originally from Omaha, Nebraska, where I grew up gardening with my mom in the backyard, getting lost in the woods and loving Husker football. I went to college out in Maryland, where I studied religion and helped several churches start a community farm. I spent a few years working on an organic vegetable and poultry farm and now help set up school gardens, get local food into school cafeterias and help teach elementary school kids how to cook in Waterloo.
Aaron McNally
Aaron is a poet from Waterloo. He's lived in Milwaukee and Kansas City. A book of his work came out in 2007, and he's published in magazines and chapbooks (little books). He's getting his Master of Arts degree in English at UNI. He'll be done in May. He is excited. He has a cat named Rupert. Rupert is also excited. Here is a picture of Aaron and Rupert. In this picture, Rupert is not excited. |
Cow judging contest is back Using the Hoard's Dairyman magazine contest, our customers can test their dairy judging prowess (or luck) at rating the best-looking cows in five breeds.
Scorecards and instructions can be picked up at Moo Roo and the Outlet stores. Entries are due Friday, March 15. Hansen's will enter participants in the Hoard's contest, so they will have a chance to win through Hoard's or through Hansen's. We will award the top five finishers in our contest based on Hoard's official judging: $10 for 5th place, $20 for 4th, $30 for 3rd, $40 for 2nd and $50 for 1st. Good luck!

Cooking with Hansen's
Happy St. Patty's Day! This is not a recipe for something green, but it's sweet and festive...
Chocolate Stout Shake
Ingredients
1/4 cup chocolate stout or other stout beer (such as Guinness) 1/2 cup prepared chocolate fudge ice cream topping 1/2 gallon Hansen's vanilla ice cream 1 cup Hansen's milk (your favorite) 6 purchased chocolate and nut covered pretzel rods (optional)
Directions
1. In a small saucepan heat beer and chocolate topping over medium low heat until warm and combined. Cool slightly.
2. Put ice cream and milk in a blender, half at a time. Cover and blend until just combined. Divide ice cream between 8 glasses (or 4 glasses if you want really big shakes!). Drizzle with chocolate/beer sauce and, if desired, serve with chocolate-covered pretzel rods.
