All my life I have fought my weight. Raised in a family of southerners, not only were fried foods and gravies a consistent component of most meals, but since my parents were survivors of the depression, having plenty to eat, and being plump was a sign of success and health. When I was feeling ill my mother often told me, "Eat. It will make you feel better." The foundation for years of dieting defeat was firmly established in my life.
I practiced almost every diet known (including amphetamines), and I lost hundreds of pounds throughout my life. Unfortunately, I always gained back more than I lost. By 2011, I reached my highest weight of 358 pounds. I wore a "tight" size thirty-two, my feet hurt and were constantly swollen, I had high blood pressure, and only strength of will kept me going every day.
