Service for Worship
Haddonfield Friends Meeting, January 27, 2013
On January 27, 2013, the year of Haddonfield's Tricentennial-themed events began with a Quaker Service for Worship at Haddonfield Friends Meeting. Quakers gave a brief introduction to their history and beliefs, then led a shortened Meeting for Worship, similar to Friends practice on First Day. After worship, all were invited attend a reception in the Friends auditorium for tea and biscuits. The Historical Society of Haddonfield unveiled reproduction period clothing circa 1713, in the style that John and Elizabeth Haddon Estaugh would have worn. Pam Perry from Meeting and Dianne Snodgrass and Carol Carty from the Historical Society coordinated the event.

The photo shows Dianne Snodgrass posing with "Elizabeth and John". The pieces were meticulously researched and created by machine and hand. Lauren Carl provided illustrations of period shoes for both John and Elizabeth, Pam Chase created John's frock coats and every button hole, Laurie Reiter Eason created Elizabeth's petticoat and mantua, Darlene Kelly created John's waistcoat, Jean Lawes created John's shirt, breeches and Elizabeth's shift, and Dianne Snodgrass created John's neck cloth, Elizabeth's whisk, apron, and stomacher, and hand-work for Elizabeth's hood, petticoat and mantua.
Additional assistance for the event was provided by: Bob Brooks, Linda Lotz, Judy Owens, and Deedy Roberts from Meeting; Liz Albert, Pearl Barry, Connie Brooks, Carol Carty, Pam Chase, Debbie Denslow, Virginia Dowd, Jill Heindel, Barbara Hilgen, Cindi Kolaski, Carol Malcarney, Connie McCaffrey, Pam Perry, Kathryn Raiczyk and Deedy Roberts assisted with the reception and reproduction period-clothing; and Tina Admonson, Dennis Dunn, Kathi Stokes, Julie Wiberg from the Haddonfield Cello Society performed.
The event was a wonderful example of two groups working together to open their doors and share a piece of history for the enjoyment of the community. Thank you to everyone who attended, and to those who worked so hard to make it a success. |
Community Service Projects honor MLK
January 19, 2013 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

Central School 5th graders gathered for a Service Day on January 19.
All across the community, children and adults dedicated time to service during January. The "Martin Luther King Day of Service" on January 19 gave local students the chance to serve many worthwhile local charities, including local animal shelters, elder-care facilities, local soup kitchens, food pantries and more.
All in all, more than 740 hours were spent in service to the community during the month of January.
The Haddonfield Tricentennial's 300 Days of Service campaign is all about giving back. Using this year to mark our gratitude for the gifts in our lives and honor those who came before us, we hope to inspire even more people to spend a day, an hour or many hours in service. If you'd like to get involved but you are not sure where to begin, visit our website to see a list of upcoming February service projects, and keep visiting the site for updates.
If you do volunteer, don't forget to let us know - we're counting the community service hours and hope to make it to our goal of 300 Days of Service! That's 7,200 hours and we're more than 10% there, just one month into the year.
