Let's Clean It Up!
Oh my yes...over the holidays we fall into some different behaviors. We might eat more rich, sugary foods and move and exercise less. No matter our resolve going into the holidays --"this year will be different"--we often see it slipping away by early December and by mid-December that ship has sailed.
There are joyful pluses this time of year and we want to be good with that. We may spend more time socializing with friends and family and we do get feelings of pleasure with the sweet foods and experiences. It's fun to let ourselves go once in awhile to experience it all.

About no w though, our bodies help us to know that it is time to cleanse and perhaps shed a few pounds. Getting back to our more typical routines is a great start. We will start to feel better once we do. No guilt...just making the turn back to good health.
Ayurveda is not about deprivation, so I hope you enjoyed the pleasures of this season. However, Ayurveda is about balance and now is the time to come back to center. In this issue, find a few high impact superchargers to get back on track.

Here it Is--The Best Breakfast to Start 2015 Off Right!!
Grapefruit with Honey, Ginger and Cardamom
1 Cup or 1/2 Grapefruit 2 pinches dry ginger 2 pinches powdered cardamom 1 tsp honey Peal the grapefruit and sprinkle with the ginger and cardamom (optional). Add honey and toss. Or simply put spices and honey on top of 1/2 grapefruit. Here is why this breakfast is so good for you. Cleanse and DetoxifyThe sour and bitter tastes of grapefruit are cleansing tastes that stimulate the flow of stagnant bile out of the gall bladder. When bile backs up it prohibits the proper flow of bile from the liver. Keeping the bile flowing flushes toxins out of the liver so that it can process new toxins coming in. Proper flow of bile helps to move along our poor holiday choices.
Improve Fat MetabolismGrapefruit stimulates fat metabolism and lowers cholesterol insulin levels.
Raw honey is the only recommended sweetener for Kapha as it is the only one that increases fat metabolism. Some attribute this quality to the work that bees do to "pre-digest" this sweetener allowing the body to metabolize it differently. Ginger stimulates agni (digestive fire) and the heart. Honey and ginger together heat the blood increasing flow and stimulate the brain to increase concentration. Cardamom and the bitter rind of grapefruit clear Kapha stagnation in the stomach.
So you can see. This is a great breakfast for post holiday clean-up and I can attest...it tastes great! You can feel it breaking up the sludge. Just note, grapefruits are contraindicated for high blood pressure or when using anti-depressants or thyroid medication.
This recipe with noted benefits is from Joyful Belly. Go here to see more about the benefits of this breakfast choice for the new year.

Guided Spring Cleanse:
Detox for Radiant Health with Ayurveda
There is no more important time to detox than the transition from Winter to Spring. In the dry Vata Winter season we accumulate toxins. Best Weight Loss and Detox Tea
1/4 lemon 1 C boiled water
1/16 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp honey
1/8 tsp apple cider vinegar
Preparation: Place ingredients in the hot water and stir. Drink in the morning upon awakening, a 1/2 hour before meals or sip slowly after meals. Braggs apple cider vinegar recommended (raw vinegar with mother in it). Do not boil honey, add it only once the tea is cool enough to drink. Notes: Lemon, honey, vinegar and cayenne form a classic Ayurveda blend to boost fat digestion and metabolism. The sour taste stimulates the flow of bile from the gall bladder and liver. You may feel a nice warming effect in your gut after drinking.
