MADISON, Wis. -- View some of Wisconsin's most remarkable homes, from the comfort of your own home, on a new Wisconsin Public Television documentary DVD, Remarkable Homes of Wisconsin, now available for purchase through the Wisconsin Historical Society Press.
The documentary, which first aired in Spring 2015, showcases the exquisite beauty and intriguing history of six of the most remarkable family homes built in Wisconsin. It draws from the Wisconsin Historical Society Press book Wisconsin's Own: Twenty Remarkable Homes, which profiles the architectural history of nearly two dozen majestic mansions and family retreats.
Documentary host Michael K. Bridgeman showcases iconic homes -- including Wingspread near Racine, Wadsworth Hall in Lake Geneva, Havilah Babcock House in Neenah, the Brooks Stevens House near Milwaukee , and Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien, a Wisconsin Historical Society site. Through stunning video, historic photos, and interviews with historians, architects, and homeowners, the hour-long program profiles not only the homes but the families who built them and explains how the architectural details reflect family aspirations, culture, and design eras.
The DVD of the documentary is available through the Wisconsin Historical Museum store online store, by calling 888-999-1699, or through bookstores and online retailers.

About the Book
The "Remarkable Homes of Wisconsin" documentary was inspired by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press book Wisconsin's Own: Twenty Remarkably Homes (Hardcover: $45.00; ISBN: 978-0-87020-452-4) by M. Caren Connolly and Louis Wasserman. The book profiles the architectural, structural and design history of 20 of Wisconsin's grandest homes, highlighted with stunning photographs by Zane Williams. In addition to homes featured in the Wisconsin Public Television documentary, the book features such homes as the Kohler's Riverbend near Sheboygan, the Fairlawn Mansion in Superior, the House of Seven Gables in Baraboo, the Captain Frederick Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee, Fort Eagle in Phelps, and many more. (Find a complete list here.) Publication of the book was made possible by a generous grant from The Jeffris Family Foundation.
