ESTATE & GIFT TAXES in an Election year...
What will the future hold?
Many of the tax provisions enacted by Congress at the end of 2010 are set to expire on December 31, 2012. Currently, there is a $5 million estate tax exemption and a tax rate of 35% on any amount over $5 million.

The month of May is going to be a busy one.
On Tuesday May 1, 2012, Associate Attorney Laura Thomas participated in pro bono legal work at Howard County Law Day, where she prepared advance directives and statutory powers of attorney for disadvantaged, elderly Howard County residents.
On May 8, 2012, Jane, John Robinson and Laura Thomas are going to be attending the Advanced Estate Planning Institute in Columbia, MD. At this continuing legal education seminar, they will be studying the most up to date estate planning techniques and developments in the law.
On May 14, 2012 from 4-5pm, Jane is going to be a special guest on WOLB Talk Radio Baltimore 1010am with Lori and Bob Hollander on their program "Black, White & Gay in America." Jane will be talking about the challenges same sex couples face when it comes to estate planning. Learn more by clicking here.
From May 19 - May 22, 2012, Jane will be attending the International Council of Shopping Centers Global Real Estate Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada - RECON.

On May 12, 2012, the firm is sponsoring Art With a Heart's annual fundraiser. Art with a Heart's mission is to enhance the lives of people in need through visual art. Art with a Heart brings its visual art programs to abused, neglected and abandoned children; homeless people; battered women and their children; pregnant adolescents; mentally and physically disabled adults; low-income senior citizens; elementary, middle, and high school students; youth in after-school programs; and children receiving long-term health care.
