Tutoring Club's reading program gives your child practice in all basic language skills, including phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, inferences and reading rate and recall.

The Amazing Math program identifies the skills your child has missed or not mastered in school, allowing him or her to go back and build the foundation in basic math necessary for success in advanced math courses, such as algebra and calculus.
Grades 2 through 12
The Write Way program teaches students the foundation of writing. The program covers such elements as essay writing (from brainstorming to final copy), capitalization, punctuation, grammar and usage. Students must be at or above grade level in reading to enroll in this program.
Grades 10 through 12
The scores of college entrance exams are very important to you and your child. They can determine whether your child is accepted to the school of his or her choice. The goal of our individualized prep courses is to teach simple, straightforward techniques that work on the majority of problems on the SAT or ACT. The techniques are proven, and can be very effective once mastered. The courses also give students targeted assignments based on their initial performance on a real SAT test. Tutoring Club offers comprehensive and customized prep courses for both the SAT and ACT.
Grades 5 through 12
This 24-hour individualized workshop teaches students how to work smarter - not harder. Students learn such skills as how to set goals, prioritize tasks, manage time, plan projects, read for information, take notes, increase reading speed and comprehension, prepare for and take tests, deal with teachers and groups and develop realistic expectations about schoolwork. Students must be at or above grade level in reading to enroll in this program.
College Planning Roadmap
For Parents of Grades 5 through 12
As parents, we hope that one day our children will grow up to lead a happy, fruitful and healthy life. That pathway often leads through college. As our children grow up, we realize that they start to have ideas of their own. All the while, we hope they will be successful, becoming independent, confident young adults. We hope our children are ready to enter the real world and reach the dream of college. Tutoring Club focuses on college readiness suitable for a college freshman. Our College Planning Roadmap provides direction from 5th grade through 12th grade, including critical reading and writing skills, SAT and ACT test preparation, as well as application assistance.

Director's Corner
When I hear that a child has moved up from C's to A's, or that reading has become a joy instead of a chore, I know that Tutoring Club is bringing value to the community.
As Americans, we typically don't start tutoring until after we receive a low progress report or bad grade. Students around the world, however, are in the habit of receiving tutoring in a particular subject the summer before school begins. This practice allows students to begin the next year well-prepared and confident.
Your child can walk into the next school year well-prepared and confident, too! Tutoring Club is known nationwide for helping students close gaps in their understanding in Reading, Math and Writing, and for helping students with basic school skills, such as time management, organization and note-taking. This is because we provide individualized curriculum in an exciting educational environment, where learning can be personalized and fun.
All of us at Tutoring Club of McLean are proud of the children we've helped since opening our doors in January. Students from such schools as Arlington Science Focus, Bailey's Elementary, Brooksfield Montessori, Carlin Spring Elementary, Chesterbrook Elementary, Churchill Road Elementary, Franklin Sherman Elementary, Georgetown Visitation, Haycock Elementary, Jamestown Elementary, Longfellow Middle, McLean High, National Cathedral, Oakcrest School, Nysmith School, Rivendell School, Sidwell Friends, TC Williams High, Williamsburg Middle and Yorktown High have all found success at Tutoring Club.
We want to thank our parents for giving us this opportunity. We are proud to be a part of this community, and we look forward to serving you in the future. If you haven't checked us out yet, it's time to make the call that makes the difference.
Let Tutoring Club help your child find success this summer and throughout the coming school year.

Summer Learning Loss Imagine training an athlete for nine months, getting them to a prescribed level of conditioning...then telling them to take three months off and do nothing! Now, imagine getting them back on the field of competition at the end of those three months and expecting them to perform at their training peak. While every good coach will build varying levels of intensity into their training programs, none would ever recommend extended periods in which not even minimal skills are practiced. This is the very thing that parents and schools routinely do over summer vacation. This can have profound consequences on the ability of children to remain at or above grade level in critical academic areas. Parents can do a lot for their children during the summer to keep their interest in learning alive, but it is easy to underestimate the academic progress that can be made with even a few hours of tutoring each week during these summer months. Studies by the Clearinghouse on Early Education and Parenting (CEEP) show that summer learning programs are an effective intervention for purposes of academic retention, enrichment and acceleration. Tutoring Club provides the setting and expertise to develop and retain reading, writing and math skills over the summer. Summer tutoring sessions can help a child return to school in the fall with increased confidence and a greater likelihood of quickly picking up and even moving past the academic level they were at when summer began. |
"My daughter's confidence level in Math has greatly improved. In two months, her grade went from a C to an A! Her tutor has been instrumental in helping her reach her full potential. My younger daughter has also greatly benefited from the tutoring she has received in reading. She is progressing in her reading fluency and comprehension. I feel confident that at Tutoring Club, they are building foundations for life-long learning success."

1st and 2nd Grade Reading Readiness Does your kindergartener... - Name, sound out and write all uppercase and lowercase letters?
- Use knowledge of letter sounds to read regularly-spelled, single-syllable words with short vowels?
- Read "sight" words and early primers?
Does your first grader... - Use phonics/decoding skills to pronounce words, including long vowels?
- Use a variety of reading strategies to self-correct mistakes that interfere with meaning?
- Read age-appropriate material orally with accuracy and fluency?

"Tutoring Club is fun. You learn and you get tokens at the same time. And did you know the tokens earn you prizes? By the way, I can read now. I'm on Level 3 at school."

Students Missing Basic Skills
The 2009 National Assessment of Educational Progress* showed that 38% of 4th graders and 32% of 8th graders in Virginia were not proficient in their reading skills. While reading tests in the primary grades may detect problems as children are acquiring initial reading skills, these tests often miss the "4th grade slump" that can occur when a shift takes place from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." Tutoring Club is taking aim at this problem through a program that focuses on skills-based instruction, incorporating the basic building blocks of reading and individualized instruction. According to the same report, 43% of 4th graders and 36% of 8th graders in Virginia were also not proficient in their math skills. Writing skills also showed to be equally low. Tutoring Club also addresses these skill gaps through programs that focus on skills-based, individualized instruction. *http://nationsreportcard.gov |
"Tutoring Club has been a wonderful resource for our two
children. In a very short period of time, we have seen a great deal of
improvement in reading. More importantly, our kids look forward to
going! Michelle is very responsive and easy to work with."
