FOCUS ON: New England Cultural Nonprofits

As you know, CultureCount was created as a data warehouse for information gathered by NEFA on arts and culture nonprofits, individual artists, and creative businesses.  Periodically, NEFA expands upon the data in CultureCount and commissions analysis to share with you, our users and colleagues.  This time, we have collected and analyzed data on the four types of cultural nonprofits in New England: registered filer, registered non-filer, embedded, and unincorporated organizations.  Click here to find more information on cultural nonprofits and to view additional charts.

The chart below visualizes the total expense and revenue of all four types of cultural nonprofits in New England by state.

How does the CultureCount Financial Tool compare to this chart?
  • The CultureCount Financial Tool  shows the IRS Form 990 data as directly reported by Registered Filers.
  • The chart above includes the three additional types of organizations' financial data, which has been analyzed by an economist.
For more definitions of the types of organizations included in the analysis above, as well as information regarding their data sources, click here!
Why is the data from fiscal year 2007?

The financial information takes a while to be verified by
the IRS and digitized by our partners at the National Center for Charitable Statistics (NCCS). Then, the data must be cleaned and analyzed by our research partners.  Newer data will be available from NCCS this winter, and as always, the CultureCount Team works hard to bring you the most recent, complete information!
