Dear Readers,

Christmas and the New Year holidays not only will bring staff vacations again this year but also the end of my tenure as your editor. To shorten the gap between newsletters during this time of vacations and transition, therefore, the next regular issue of EpiscoBlast (and my last), normally due out today, will be emailed next week on Wednesday, December 21. However, check below for announcements about a couple of events being held this weekend.

Church leaders: If you would like to publish your congregation's Christmas and New Year services schedule, please send it to me by Monday afternoon by email in a format that can be easily copied and pasted (e.g., as a Word document, NOT a Constant Contact-type newsletter or PDF announcement). Items that have to be retyped may not be included in the newsletter. The information should be provided in this order: name of your church, street address and city, service title/day, date and time. Brief descriptive information of the service may also be included.  Send to enews@episcopalky.org

Also, please feel free to send along a photo of an event, service or moment at your church that best illustrates this season of anticipation and preparation for your congregation as we enter this fourth week of Advent.

Have a blessed weekend,

Mary Jane

This weekend

Young Men United at Ascension's Lessons & Carols   Four lit Advent candles: one, pink; the rest, burgundy

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 211 N. Third St., Bardstown will host the final Red Doors Concert on Sunday, Dec. 18.

A special service of Advent Lessons and Carols, beginning at 4 p.m. (EST), will include special music by "Young Men United," a local male quartet and students from the Music Institute of Bardstown, as well as offerings from Ascension vocalists and Music Director Hobert Humphrey.

The traditional service will include Scripture readings that foretell the birth of Christ, special music and congregational singing that announce His coming in song.

Light refreshments will be available after the formal concert, and all are invited to return to the sanctuary piano to join in caroling. "We want to provide a moment away from the hectic pace of the holiday season to simply enjoy singing Christmas carols with our friends," said Humphrey. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the free concert and caroling.

Her talk will be at 3 p.m. in Bishops Hall at the cathedral's Diocesan House, 425 S. Second St. This event is free and open to the public.

Ms. Mujica will discuss her photo exhibit, "Women's Dreams; Immigrant's Barriers," which is on display in Bishops Hall through January 8, 2012.

According to Mujica,  the exhibit consists of portraits and testimonies of Latina Immigrants who, like her, were born and raised in another country, and now call the United States of America home. As the title declares, and most of the testimonies corroborate, as women with dreams and as immigrants with barriers.
