'Dawn of a new day'
Bishop White reflects on bishops' meeting in Ecuador as one-year anniversary in Kentucky approaches
Beloved in Christ,
A meeting of the House of Bishops, held in Quito, Ecuador, concluded this week. This was my second gathering, having attended the March retreat and meeting at Kanuga. I wish to share with you my thoughts that this was no ordinary meeting. In fact, hard work, consultation, and a great deal of prayer enabled a couple of significant outcomes.
Several bishops have used social media to share their own experiences. The Rt. Rev. Porter Taylor, Bishop of Western North Carolina, had thoughts similar to my own. He began with asking and answering why we met in Quito. Read more
[FYI Bishop Terry White was consecrated the Diocese of Kentucky's eighth bishop one year ago Sunday (September 25, 2010) in Louisville.]

Register online by Oct. 15
First set of pre-convention information and registration are now available on diocese's website
Sent by U.S. mail in previous years to clergy and parish leaders, the first set of pre-convention materials, including registration instruction, is now available online at "Convention 2011" on the Diocese of Kentucky website (http://www.episcopalky.org).
The materials offer information about registration, hotels, the tentative agenda and more information about the upcoming 184th Convention of the Diocese of Kentucky, which will be Nov. 11 and 12 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Louisville. This is the second diocesan convention to be held this year as the diocese transitions to a Fall annual gathering. (A list of links to specific information may be found at the end of this article).
An important change for this convention: registration will be done entirely online at http://www.episcopalky.org/convention-registration.html. Those who have previously registered online for diocesan events may find the registration form and process familiar. For those who have not registered on the diocese's website before, the convention registration form includes detailed instructions. However, those having difficulties in completing the form may contact Mary Jane Cherry, the diocese's communications director, for assistance. She may be reached at the diocesan office (502-584-7148) or at maryjane@episcopalky.org

Memo from diocese's canon
Reduced office staffing brings new ways for doing things
The Rev. Canon Joan Smith, Canon to the Ordinary
Several of you may know already that there have been changes in diocesan office staff during this summer.
- Mike Hutchins, Administrative Assistant to the Bishop, left July 1 after that position was closed due to budget constraints.
- Betty Williams, Office Administrator, left August 31 when that position also was not able to be funded.
Both Betty and Mike have made significant contributions to our life and ministry, and we are grateful to them for their service.
With these changes, we now have a maximum of four staff members in the Louisville office when all are on premises. Meetings, pastoral calls, and other responsibilities take each of us out of the office from time to time. We have found it best, from the standpoint of security, to have at least two persons in the office at all times. However, the decreased level of staffing makes that difficult right now. In the middle of the day, if we have to leave one person alone for a time, the elevator is locked to control access. This is especially important because the building is occupied sporadically by other tenants, particularly on Mondays and Fridays.

Dear Readers,
Publication of pre-Diocesan Convention materials, including online registration, and preparing our email distribution lists for notifying all of our clergy members and lay leaders turned out to be a time-consuming endeavor, more than anticipated, so you are receiving an abbreviated EpiscoBlast today. Although we usually send out newsletters on alternating weeks, look for another one to arrive in your inbox next week.
If you or your church or organization have news of interest to Episcopalians, please send us your stories and, if possible, photos for possible publication online and in the E-blast. Preferably, the articles will be sent as Word documents by email to maryjane@episcopalky.org. Video Buffs, Photogs and Audiophiles: We have a media center where you may submit videos, audio files and images that you believe may be of interest to Kentucky Episcopalians and visitors to our website. Please give me a call at 502-584-7148 or send an email if you would like to learn more about the media center and ways it may be used to spotlight your congregation's people and ministries.
Faithfully,
Mary Jane
