Camp cabin moms and dads, other volunteers wanted for All Saints summer camps

The All Saints Summer Camp Program has a positive dilemma. It's growing and, therefore, in need of more volunteers.

Summer Camp Director Beth Bojarski says two types of volunteers are most needed (those willing to serve as Cabin Moms and Dads and health professionals qualified to serve as the camp nurse) but other opportunities are also available for volunteers.

Interested? Click here for more information from the camp director.

Wanted: names of people involved or interested
in environmental ministries
By the Rev. Jerry Cappel, Province IV Environmental Coordinator

Beth Bojarski, who specialized in environmental theology while working on a master's degree at Virginia Theological Seminary, and I are working to create a current list of people in the diocese who are leading a "Creation Care" team in a parish or are in some way interested in environmental ministry. We would like to coordinate a network for creation care in the diocese, and assist in providing resources and assistance as needed. While we have several names already, we are working to expand the list and keep it current.

If you, or someone you know, is in a leadership position or is interested in this type of ministry in the diocese, please provide that contact information to myself or Beth, so we can follow up.  Send your information to Jerry at jjcappel@hotmail.com or Beth at bettybojarski@gmail.com

St. Peter's of the Lakes breaks ground for labyrinth
By Nancy McKinney
St. Peter's of the Lakes Episcopal Church near Gilbertsville took a major step toward building a labyrinth, first proposed five years ago, with a groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, March 27.

Inspired by the labyrinth at New Harmony, Ind., the 45-foot-diameter labyrinth will have only one path that winds throughout.  "It becomes a mirror for where we are in our lives," The Rev. Nick Jaeger, priest associate, said. "It is our hope that our community and visitors to the Lakes area will visit the site and find rest and renewal. They would be welcome to visit the church, too, but the labyrinth will be a separate area on the church grounds."  Read more

Dear Episcopal brother/ sister,
I am a member of St. Francis in the Fields and our parish coordinator for Habitat outreach. In past years, we have partnered with Episcopal churches and others in the community to build Habitat houses here in Louisville. It has been an experience that goes far beyond helping one family to achieve home ownership and we plan to do it again this year as part of Habitat's Interfaith Community Effort (ICE). If you are already a partner, thank you. If not, we want to invite you, and others in your church, to be part of our outreach team. Read more

Basics of planned giving webinars begin April 13

The Episcopal Church Foundation

As part of the Episcopal Church Foundation's (ECF) on-going effort to educate Episcopal leaders about planned giving, ECF is offering several webinars on the basics of planned giving. The first webinar will take place Wednesday, April 13.

"Setting Up a Planned Giving Program for Your Parish" takes the mystery out of planned giving. Learn how planned giving differs from annual stewardship and capital campaigns, and how your parish can build endowment through wills and life income gifts. You will learn about the different types of planned gifts, as well as about the importance of parish vision, protecting and growing your endowment, and how to invite others to remember your parish through estate and financial planning. You will leave the webinar with a plan of action.

Presiding bishop publishes Easter message
By The Episcopal Church Office of Public Affairs
[April 7, 2011] Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori says in her 2011 Easter Message, "We give thanks for the Resurrection, and we become part of Jesus' ongoing work, as we become aware of its power in our own lives."

The following is the Presiding Bishop's Easter Message:

Easter 2011
The Resurrection must be understood in significantly different images and metaphors in the southern hemisphere, when Easter always arrives in the transition from summer to winter. Even as a hard, hard winter lingers on in northern climes, with unaccustomed April snow in many places, we yearn for the new life we know is waiting around the corner. As Christians, we're meant to have the same hunger for the new creation emerging all around us.  Read more

World Malaria Day April 25

Joint statement asks the Church to pray for those with malaria, support prevention efforts

By The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church
Dr. Bonnie Anderson, President of the House of Deputies of the Episcopal Church
Dr. Robert W. Radtke, President of Episcopal Relief & Development

[April 7, 2011] One of the most important initiatives in which the Episcopal Church has participated over the last five years is  NetsforLife®, a program partnership for malaria prevention in 17 countries across sub-Saharan Africa.

As the world prepares to commemorate World Malaria Day on April 25, we call on the Church to pray for those suffering from this deadly disease and take stock of those things done and those things left undone.

For the current triennium, NetsforLife® is the centerpiece of our Church's prophetic response to the Millennium Development Goals.
