Convention's 'Coming Together' at St. Matthew's
Plans are coming together and all is being readied for next weekend's diocesan convention, which will be all about "Coming Together" - with a touch of Mardi Gras.
The 183rd Convention of the Diocese of Kentucky will meet at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 330 N. Hubbards Lane, in Louisville on Friday, February 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26.
The annual gathering will bring together Episcopalians and friends from 34 congregations and various ministries across the western half of Kentucky to the first convention in the episcopacy of the diocese's new bishop, the Rt. Rev. Terry Allen White, who was consecrated last September.
As in previous years, it will begin on Friday afternoon with registration and clusters of workshops between 2 and 5 p.m. (EST). The opening Eucharist will begin at 5:30 p.m. (EST), during which the bishop will deliver the first part of his first convention address. (The second half will be given at Morning Prayer, which begins at 9 a.m., on Saturday.) Read more Check out Convention 2011 http://youth .episcopalky.org/episcopalooza.html

Sweets, greetings, all hands wanted for river ministry
Seamen's Church in Paducah is gearing up for Easter on the River 2011, and it is seeking help from the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky's congregations to ensure another success. There are at least three ways Kentucky Episcopalians can help.
Parishioners are asked to collect individually wrapped candies for the Easter boxes between now and March 24. (Unwrapped candies tend to bleed on other contents). The ministry's organizers want to pack each Easter box with enough candy for every person onboard to enjoy some. Figuring an average towboat crew at 10 people, that means the program needs lots of candy. Read more |

Fine art museum to display
diocesan sculpture, artifacts
The cruciform wall sculpture, usually the first thing visitors to diocesan offices see when they first step off the elevator, and two other diocesan artifacts will soon be seen by visitors to the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art.
The other museum-bound objects from diocesan offices are a 1967 painting, "Sermon on the Mount," by a Haitian painter (C. or L.) Auguste, which has been hanging on the hallway wall opposite the bishop's office, and the seldom seen ceremonial crosier of platinum and gold with stones that has been used by the diocese's bishops since 1898.

Parish holds design competition
St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Louisville is conducting a design competition for an artistic creation to fill the space between the parish's organ pipes in its worship area.
As a signature work, the artistic work will be a dramatic, dynamic focal point of the worship space, and it will serve as an attraction, in and of itself. St. Paul's is asking artists to review information about the parish, and provide it with a design concept. The parish will award up to $25,000 for the creation and installation of the work. The church is hopeful that the completed artistic work will be installed by the end of July.
Details about the competition may be found by uploading the parish's "Request for Design Concept."

Interfaith group builds another Habitat home
By Evelyn Mudd, St. Thomas
Members of Presbyterian, Episcopal, Jewish and U of L faith communities recently celebrated the completion of the Habitat for Humanity house they helped build.
The home is located at 2965 Dumesnil Street in western Louisville. Under construction since October, the house is billed as the Interfaith Community House because of the number of faiths involved in this project. Half the money needed to build the home was donated by the builders' faith communities, and the other half came from Habitat funds. Read more

From one Episcopal church to another
By Carolyn Snow, Calvary Episcopal Church

Inspired by a western Kentucky parish, members of Calvary Episcopal Church brought together a collection of creches and the owners' personal stories for a exhibition on Sunday, January 23.
The idea was borrowed from a story in the diocesan newspaper a couple of years ago about the Nativity display at Trinity Church in Fulton. Calvary's exhibition included 16 family creches and seven that were given over the years by members to the church school children, including one from Paraguay that folded in to a small box. Read more

The election was held among the Primates of the Anglican Communion during the group's recent meeting in Dublin, Ireland.
