The Greening of the Convention The 183rd Convention of the Diocese of Kentucky has gone seriously green today (Friday, February 4, 2011).
If you are planning to participate in this year's convention Feb. 25-26, don't look for the annual reports in the mailbox. In lieu of mailing more than 200 of the bulky packets to attendees, the diocesan office has published the annual pre-convention publication online, as of this afternoon. Not only have thousands of pages of paper been saved by going digital, but the diocese has saved an estimated $1,200 to $1,400 in production and mailing costs, according to the Rev. Canon Joan Smith. Check out the new site at http://www.episcopalky.org/Convention%202011/convention-2011.html While the medium may be new, the convention materials will be familiar. You will find all of the reports that have been submitted to Convention Secretary Kay Shields Wilkinson, including reports from diocesan officers, departments, committees and commissions, and other entities affiliated with the diocese. Budget information will also be posted on the site as well as profiles of those nominated for diocesan offices and for the diocese's General Convention deputation. As with any new enterprise, even with our best efforts to reach perfection in making dozens upon dozens of links to documents, glitches may occur. If you have difficulty in uploading a document or encounter faulty links, please let us know by emailing maryjane@episcopalky.org or by calling Betty Williams at 502-584-7148 so we may help you obtain the convention material and fix any glitches that may occur. THIS WEEKEND St. Francis in the Fields' adults examine their parish namesake St. Francis in the Fields Adult Education Series on Sunday mornings (February 6 - March 6) from 10-10:50 a.m.(EST) is exploring "Living the Prayer of St. Francis." The program offers an opportunity to learn more about the life, times and legacy of Saint Francis. The founder of the Franciscan Order, the woman's Order of St. Clare, and the lay Third Order of Saint Francis, he is one of the most venerated religious figures in history. It has been argued that no one in history was as dedicated as Francis to imitate the life, and carry out the work, of Christ in Christ's own way. Bishop David Kocka, a member of the Franciscan Order, will present the program this Sunday (Feb. 6) on "The Legacy of St. Francis of Assisi, Love Alone Creates." St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church is located at 6710 Wolf Pen Branch Road at the corner of US 42 and Wolf Pen Branch. Interfaith Paths to Peace: 15 Going on 60 Interfaith Paths to Peace in Louisville is celebrating two major birthdays (its own anniversary and the 60th birthday of its executive Director Terry Taylor). Come join them from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, and wish them both many more good years to come.
