Camp Provides Respite for Children of Families Impacted by Storms

Following severe weather and tornadoes in mid-April, Camp Kanuga announced it would partner with Episcopal Relief and Development to give children of families impacted by the storms a chance to attend camp at no charge.  As an update to that announcement, Emily Boone from Camp Kanuga said that five youth from the Sanford area attended Session Three of camp, which recently ended.

"Families have been incredibly grateful for the opportunity to send their children to camp for a vacation from the harsh realities of their lives in the wake of the tornadoes. The campers have been joyous and carefree at camp--our driver taking them back on the bus to Sanford told me that they sang camp songs the entire ride back. I am a believer in the power of camp in children's lives, and I have been very gratified to see this initiative reach these children as it has," said Boone.

Boone continues to receive calls almost daily related to youth who are interested in attending one of the Camps.  Currently, all of the slots for Camp Kanuga are now filled for the remaining sessions, but there continue to be a few slots available for Camp Bob.

Youth from North Carolina may be joined by youth from the Diocese of Alabama at a Camp Bob session scheduled in August early August.
