Greetings!

Lots has happened at Tecaboca since I last managed to get out a newsletter. The good news is that so much is happening, I find it difficult to get to my computer to get the word out; the bad news is you might not know all that is happening in this sacred space.  Many lives continue to be impacted through significant experiences here, and more will be touched by Tecaboca's unique environment in the months to come. Much is planned, so read on to find out how you can "come back home" soon.

Many blessings,

Kay

Got God?

Identifying God's action in your every day

Cross photo

Young Adults should gather together periodically to slow down and reassess God's Call during this period of life. This weekend is a perfect time to do so, and Tecaboca is a perfect place to gather.

During the weekend, facilitated discussion will center on:

- Looking for God's providence at work in your life

- God's role in your profession/career life

- God's role in love and relationships

- God's role in your vocation/discernment of the future and where you are going.

The weekend will be about examining the presence of God in your life, and how it moves you, how you take time to look for it, and how it forms your actions.  In the development of your profession how do you find a place for God in what you do? How is your performance impacted and influenced by your faith, love and relationships and where is God's place in them? And, the key question: where are you going and where and to what is God calling you?

 Men's Retreat

Men and Their Unique Spiritual Journey

October 28-30, 2011

$120 per person. Price includes all retreat activities, housing, and meals.

Men who have worked hard to be good and religious all their lives sometimes have greater difficulty in heart felt conversion experiences. This weekend is about becoming our authentic selves and going deeper into our own goodness.

The retreat also will focus on how our culture defines "normal and happy" for men: a better job, a better relationship, more security. Meanwhile many men have tasted all of this and it doesn't give them what they are looking for. We will examine the gospel where Jesus says, "What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?" Jesus challenges us about being asleep in this collective world and to become our unique selves.

The retreat is open to men of all ages. Participants will celebrate the Eucharist, and prayer, quiet time, small group sharing, socializing, and fun within a supportive, intentional community of men.

The retreat will be led by a team of lay Marianists from the Marianist Family Retreat Center in Cape May Point, New Jersey. These gentlemen have developed and directed many successful retreats.

Horses are now residents of Tecaboca!

Because of the generosity of several individuals, Tecaboca has been able to acquire a group of four horses that will form our base herd of horses for Boys Camp, and eventually other programs that are being developed. We are excited to have a group of tried and true horses to fill the role of being our model horses for summer family retreats and boys camp.  Hope, Jayhawk, Cowie, and Butch are being ridden weekly to keep them in shape for future guests.

Our new memorial plaques make donating a tree even more memorable

We have a new way to designate Memorial Trees - the Memorial Engraved Rock. Limestone Rocks from Tecaboca are selected and taken to Texas Rock Art in Fredericksburg for engraving of the donor's sentiment.  The rock plaque is then placed at the base of the newly planted tree, for a way for others to know in whose memory or honor the tree is planted. The tree/rock plaque combination recommended donation is $375.

New Board Members Begin Serving in November

Fr. Jim Mueller, S.M., Bubba Kunz, David Wahrmund, and Lynette Bernot have all recently completed several years each in service to the Tecaboca Board of Ministry. Their commitment and diligence to the duties of Board Member are noteworthy, as it is a responsibility that includes travel to meetings four times a year and quite a bit of work in between meetings to meet the needs of Tecaboca. We are thankful to them for their years of service.

At the November meeting, John Moder, Fr. Patrick McDaid, S.M., Eddie Ybarra, and Bro. Sean Downing will begin tenures on the Tecaboca Board of Ministry. We are grateful for their willingness to serve.

New Kelly Green, Definition of Tecaboca T-Shirt

Folks often wonder how to say Tecaboca correctly, and then ask "What does Tecaboca mean?"

Many know that TECABOCA is formed by the first two letters of the words Texas Catholic Boys Camp, but most also know it is so much more. This definition is offered on the back of this shirt:

If you won't be coming out to Tecaboca soon, please contact Kay at director@tecaboca.com and she will make arrangements for a t-shirt to be mailed. Cost is $15 if mailed.
