| Dear IATTO Members and Friends:
It has been sometime since we have sent an update on our activities. Included are important announcements regarding our forum, accreditation news, and future events. |
|
FORUM 2010 UPDATE Unfortunately, the Carribean Export Council has needed to cancel their hosting of the 2010 Forum, originally planned for Barbados 27-29 October. The timing of the forum was going to be a challenge.
Given the short timeframe until October, the IATTO board concluded there is not sufficient time to find a replacement host. So we have decided to cancel the 2010 Forum.
However, we believe it critical that members still have an opportunity to meet and discuss issues of interest and concerns. So we are planning as an alternative a one-day meeting in Brussels, Belgium the 6th of December. We felt that the European location will be the most convenient for many of our members and hope to coordinate the meeting with an EU planning meeting on international trade.
More details will be forthcoming. However, please diary the 6th of December in Brussels. We do not plan any expenses for the meeting, other than meals. We will also hold our Annual General Meeting at the same time and hold a workshop on the IATTO Accreditation Programme. |
FORUM 2009 AWARD WINNERS
IATTO was pleased to announce three award winners during the 2009 Forum. The Ian Felps Award (named in honour of our prior Secretary Ian Felps, Cape Town, South Africa) honours world-class achievement in trade education and development. It was awarded to The Institute of Export (UK) for Guru On-Line. Please visit Guru On-Line at http://www.guruonline.tv/internationaltrade to view their extensive list of short videos on trade training topics.
Lesley Batchelor - The Intitute of Export |
Trade Educator of the Year was presented to Dr. Fons Trompenaars (INSEAD, France) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to international trade education and development. Dr. Trompenaars is known globally for his books and training on cross-cultural issues and has presented at IATTO Forums. This was the first time the award has been presented.

Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Mr. Jaakko Harjula (retired, FINTRA, Finland) honoring a liftime of excellence and dedication to trade education and development. This was also a new award and no one is more deserving than Mr. Harjula who is not only known for his nearly 30 years of leadership as FINTRA's president, but also as the founding IATTO Chairman.
Jaakko Harjula - FINTA, Finland | Congratulations to all our award winners! A special thanks to ITM Worldwide for another excellent forum. ITM staff worked hard for many months preparing all the conference details. It was an outstanding success. Thank you!

CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
Last year's forum personally reinforced the importance of IATTO to my own effectiveness here at the International Trade Center at Bradley University. Seeing my IATTO colleagues from around the world, sharing our thoughts on the global economy and trade, finding new resources, meeting new people, and all the while enjoying the beautiful setting in Cannes, France. It was a wonderful event.
I regret we will not be able to recreate quite the same setting later this year, as planned in Barbados. However, it is critical we keep our connections and networking strong. Do please consider joining us on 6 December. It will be a short time together. But as many of you will remember from a similiar meeting in Paris in 2006, a lot can be done in a day!
I am pleased to report that finanancially IATTO has gotten stronger. Partly this is due to a very kind offer from ITRISA (South Africa) to act as Secretariat on a short-term basis. My sincere thanks to Rose Blatch and her crew for their ongoing support. (And to Rose and all your fellow hard working World Cup hosts in South Africa - congrats on a job well done!)
The board is currently discussing plans for a 2011 forum and will keep you updated.
Meanwhile I trust this finds you well, enjoying the height of summer vacations perhaps or a winter break for our friends down under.
Kind regards, |
|
On behalf of the IATTO Board, James Foley, Chairman Bradley University
