Dear students and friends on the path of yoga,
We sincerely welcome you to the first Purna Yoga E-Newsletter. We realize, with our busy schedules, that we do not get to spend as much time with you as we would like. Therefore we are starting this monthly newsletter to keep you updated on events, changes, important news, and health finds and recommendations we have found helpful and healing. We are grateful you are reading this, yet in our modern world time is valuable, so we will try to keep our articles both brief and useful. Please enjoy!

|
Mirra and I first opened Yoga Centers and later founded Purna Yoga because we saw a need within our community and the world for real healing. We have spent our lives studying, understanding, practicing and sharing what we have learned from the magnificent traditions of yoga in order to help others. What we offer you is our expertise and time-tested knowledge of asana, pranayama, meditation, nutrition, philosophy and life-style. We have realized that as our students grow, so do we. We look forward to keeping in touch with you and continuing to support your growth in Purna Yoga.

Doing Yoga From Your Heart
The concepts of stiffness and limitation ("I can't do this because of this") don't exist when you do yoga from your heart. When you do yoga from that place of trust rather than from the mind, then these kinds of popular illusions disappear.

Breathe Easy
As summer ends, children go back to school, and change is in the air, take comfort in the power of prana (yogic breath). When you get up in the morning, sit on your bed for a couple of minutes (or stand at a window, looking at nature outside) and on the exhalation root and relax your body weight down into the earth. Then take a long-deep inhalation, inhaling breath and light into your whole body. As you exhale, once again root and feel grounded. Doing this for 3-9 breaths will make you feel ready to handle the upcoming day. As you inhale, feel your whole body smiling. Feel your skin expanding, feel your innate potential manifesting, feel yourself coming alive, as you consciously accept the expansiveness that inhalation offers. As you exhale, allow your skin to relax, your body to become calm, and accept the peace that exhalation offers. Do this one more time in the middle of the day, preferably just before lunch, and once again just before going to bed at night. These are also ideal times to do the Purna Yoga Meditation snacks if you know them.

Nourishing Ourselves with Light
Though we may regularly eat healthy food and drink filtered water, we are probably not nourishing our bodies with the most important energy of all, and that is Light. Without Light, we are not really living. The Purna Yoga Meditation Snacks offer ways to nourish your physical form (which includes your mind) with the Light that is your soul, all day long. In meditating, you learn to see the body as the soul sees the body, as just an outfit that the soul wears on the earthly realm. These meditations invite Light (soul) into your body (outfit), and help you to see, heal, and release your shadows, those parts of you that are not the true you. These meditations gently bring you into the Now, that timeless state where you no longer live influenced by past karma or the need to control the future.

Our True Dharma
As we ponder our life purpose (dharma), we often make the mistake of identifying it with one particular form or occupation or routine. Our true purpose-our true dharma-is to live with the presence of the soul in everything we do. It doesn't really matter what we do on the outside. It's not about what I do here, or what I leave behind when I leave this earth. It is about whether I have integrated my true self in this physical form, and allowed my true self to embody the gifts of the earth.

Cell Phones
When I read of an experiment in which a raw egg was placed between two cell phones, I realized why I always get headaches when I place a cell phone near my head. Within an hour, the egg was cooked! I strongly recommend that you use an earpiece with a ferrite bead on it during all your cell phone communications, no matter how short they may be. The alternative is to use the speakerphone option and place the phone at least two feet away from your head.
