New Sunday School Year, New Format: 9/9 at 9:00! Sunday School

On Sunday, September 9, St. John's will kick off a new Sunday School year!  Sunday School for children will now take place during the 9:00 a.m. service.  Children will process from the church during the opening hymn and return later in the service.  The curriculum will follow the liturgy, with age-appropriate crafts, activities, and learning.  Singing, snacks, and hands-on outreach to Uganda will also be a part of each session, as children meet in age-specific groups, then come together as a group.

Between the 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services, stay for adult Sunday School and coffee hour fellowship.  Activities for children on the sports deck, as well as quiet time for reading and coloring, will also be available at this time.

Join us September 9 to begin an energizing new year of growing in our faith!

Round Up of the Round Up!
This past Sunday, August 26, the many ministries of St. John's Church were celebrated.  Children and adults alike processed down the aisle at  the beginning of the 9:00 a.m. service with colorful banners representing the more than 40 outreach, education, fellowship, and support ministries that St. John's sustains.  Then following the service, parishioners gathered in Rudisill Parish Hall to enjoy fellowship and find out more information about these ministries and groups.  We hope you were able to find a ministry that inspires you!

Thanks to Keith Lindquist Photography for the terrific pictures!

Save the Date!
St. John's Centennial Celebration is Saturday, September 29!
On Saturday, September 29, St. John's Church will celebrate our centennial with a festive evening to include fellowship, dinner, music from  our choir, and a visit from the Right Reverend Dabney Smith, the Bishop of Southwest Florida.  Please save the date and look for more information soon!

We are also looking for parishioners' help in locating photos of St. John's history.  Any baptism, wedding, Easter, or Christmas photos are welcome!  We will carefully scan and return them in the same condition.

Walking the Mourner's Path: New Session Begins September 25

St John's will offer the program Walking the Mourner's Path beginning September 25, with group meetings held weekly on Tuesday evenings for eight weeks.  The program is designed for individuals who have cross experienced the death of a loved one at least 6 months ago.  Walking the Mourner's Path is a small group experience whose goal is to help participants begin to heal and find a renewed joy in living.  Sessions are held at 7:00 p.m. in the School's Lower Division Library, upstairs at the Orleans campus; the last session is on Tuesday, November 13.  For more information, contact Fr. Randy Hehr or Jan Elliott in the parish offices at 259.1570 or click here to find more information at St. John's website.

The Contemporary Women's Bible Study

There will be no CWBS meeting today.  The group will resume next week on Tuesday, September 11 with a study of the "General Letters" of the New Testament.  Beginning on December 4 (start of Advent), the study of Isaiah will resume with Isaiah 2, 40 - 66.  Contact Kathleen Moore at 221.6253 or kathleenmarymoore@gmail.com with questions.

Women's Mid Morning Bible Study
New time!  New location!  And a slightly new name!
Beginning Tuesday, September 4, the women's Bible study that has been meeting at noon for the last several years will commence a study of "Parables of the New Testament" at 10:15 a.m. in the Lowry Room, adjacent to the parish offices at 906 South Orleans Avenue.  There will be time for fellowship, followed at 10:30 a.m. by an introduction to the study of parables, given by Father Randy Hehr.  The group will conclude at 11:30 a.m.

This is a great opportunity to expand your understanding of some of Jesus' most puzzling teachings in the midst of a welcoming and supportive community of women.  If you have questions, contact Sally Wiley at swileytampa@aol.com or 253.3906.
