Faith Café News
The Board of Directors of STEM (South Tampa Ecumenical Ministries) reported the wonderful news that they closed on the property for the new Faith Café on May 31, and now they can move forward with the building. Jeanette Connelly, President of STEM, wrote this to the Board: "The Sinclair Group has been influential and essential to our construction and permitting process.  They have already acquired over $100,000 worth of donated materials and labor for the new building.  We do foresee the need for additional fundraising, but now that we own property, we believe and trust that more people will give, and give generously.  Also, we believe more companies will step forward to donate and participate in this community-wide project.  Some firms that have already contributed to this project are Hill, Ward, Henderson, P.A, Heidt Design, Woodroffe Architects, Capstone Group, Inc., and DeLaVergne & Company.  We have raised a little over $300,000 with little fundraising and marketing.  We trust that our faithful and loving Father will help us with the additional funding or additional materials donations.  STEM has taken a leap of faith but God has shown us time and time again that HE provides, abundantly.  We trust that your congregations will continue to support the building process."

Thank you to all the wonderful St. John's volunteers who continue to give so generously of their time serving lunch at Faith Café on the 3rd and 4th Fridays of each month. These include: Nicholas Nitch, Sally Wiley, David Wheaton, Daniel Otero, Miriam Faircloth, Maria Howey, Pat Matthews, Michael Matthews, Patrick Whittlesey, Lesley Hanlon, Beth Arthur, Kari and Mark Power, Mary Jane Schenck, and Lisa Galbraith.

The Angel Closet at Faith Café also urgently needs men's t-shirts, shorts, lightweight pants, and toiletries. You may bring donations to the St. John's parish offices.

Monday, June 11:  St. Barnabas the Apostle

Feast Day Facts: Barnabas (originally Joseph), is considered an Apostle in Holy Scripture, and, like St. Paul, ranked by the Church with the Twelve, though not one of themA rather late tradition recorded by Clement of Alexandria and Eusebius says that he was one of the seventy Disciples, but Acts (4:36-37) favors the opinion that he was converted to Christianity shortly after Pentecost (about A.D. 29 or 30) and immediately sold his property and devoted the proceeds to the Church.  The Apostles, probably because of his success as a preacher, surnamed him Barnabas, a name then interpreted as meaning "son of exhortation" or "consolation."

When Saul the persecutor, later Paul the Apostle, made his first visit to Jerusalem after his conversion, the Church there, remembering his former fierce spirit, was slow to believe in the reality of his conversion. Barnabas stood sponsor for him and had him received by the Apostles, as the Acts relate (9:27).
