100 Reasons to Love St. John's, Continued
St. John's is very meaningful to me for many reasons, among them:
- a wonderful group of very close friends
- the ministries, especially CWBS and Outreach
- getting involved in Faith Café, helping with our commitment to serve
- lunch there two days a month and through that getting to know new and long-time members of the parish whom I had not known.
- the first-class music program--Simon, the choir members, and each of their evensongs and concerts.
- the diverse styles of the clergy
- ironing linens for Altar Guild (yes, I love it)
Submit a sentence or two about why you love St. John's and we will feature your entry in the Scroll. We hope to create a list of 100 reasons to love St. John's. We are also hoping parishioners will share their memories and old photos so that we may share them with the congregation. Send submissions to stjohnstampa@gmail.com.

Wednesday Covered Dish Dinner and Program
The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem, a video, will be shown during group sessions beginning on Wednesday, January 4, 2012.
The video leads the attendees over a course of sessions to examine the geographical, cultural, and historical settings of the events that resulted in the birth of the Christ Child and, ultimately, to help participants see themselves in the story.
The focal Scripture texts will be Luke and Matthew's accounts of the Annunciation, Mary's visit with Elizabeth, Joseph's dream of an angel, the walk to Bethlehem, and the visits of the shepherds
and, later, the magi.
On January 4, Session 3 considers Mary's visit with Elizabeth. Session 4 will look at the actual journey to Bethlehem. Session 5 will take us to the manger and to the shepherds' fields.

ˇ Faith Café is a program which serves our neighbors in need, offering food and referral to other organizations.
ˇ Sandwich Sunday is a collective effort of the entire parish (on the third Sunday of every month) to provide sandwiches and goodies for distribution at Faith Café as a "take away meal."

The Women's Mid Day Bible Study
On Tuesday, January 17, the Women's Mid Day Bible Study will meet at 11:45 a.m. to begin a new study for winter/spring, "God Calls Us,Then and Now: Meeting Women in Scripture." One of our members, Winkie Game, will facilitate our first meeting, an introduction to Rebecca, using Genesis 25:19-34 and 27:1-29 as our focus. There will be opportunity for participation and discussion as we consider how God worked in Rebecca's life in the ancient land of Canaan and what we might glean from her experience that has meaning for us today. Over the next four months each time we meet we will be studying one or two different Biblical women and be led by a different facilitator.
If you have never joined us before, consider yourself especially invited. We are also looking forward to welcoming any and all who have been part of our study over the last four years. We will be meeting at 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the John Peterson Adult Education Room at the Middle School campus, 240 Plant Ave., on alternate Tuesdays. (Parking is available in front of the school building and under the Crosstown Expressway in a dedicated school lot accessible from Plant Ave.) If you would like to participate in an optional sandwich and salad lunch at a cost of $5.00, please email Joan McKay at mckayjhm@aol.com. If you have questions or would like more information, contact Sally Wiley at 813.253.3906.
