911 TributeDear Parishioners,

This Sunday, on the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, we will be addressing that tragic event in church and in our adult Sunday School classes.

Please join us, after the 9:00 AM service, for an intergenerational remembrance. The children and youth will meet in the Garth and then go to the art room for a special art and letter writing program. Youth (at parent's discretion) and adults will gather in the Parish Hall where there will be a program and candle lighting in memory of our victims. Please join together to remember and support one another.

Music:  We will offer a liturgical performance of the Requiem (op. 48), by Gabriel Faur at 11:15 AM Composed between 1887 and 1890, this choral-orchestral setting of the Roman Catholic Mass for the Dead is the best known of Faur's large works. The Requiem was first performed at Faur's own funeral in 1924, and received its first performance in America in 1931 at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. Do join us for this liturgical performance of one of the most haunting and timeless works. -Simon Morley

BibleSt John's Men's Thursday Interactive Bible Study and Lunch continues our fall series, "What is our responsibility as Christian Men?", this Thursday September 8, 11:45-12:45 PM in the John Peterson Room at the Middle School campus. The subject this week is "Hearing God-Our responsibility to listen." Our facilitator will be Steven J. Weiler, the Senior Rabbi at Shoresh David Messianic Synagogue in Tampa. He was raised in a traditional Jewish home, and early on became increasingly interested in the life and teachings of Jesus. Risking criticism, he became a "Jew of Jesus," and will share that journey with us as well as teaching the lesson of "Hearing God-Our responsibility to listen."

Walking the Mourner's Path

The Mourner's PathWalking the Mourner's Path is a bereavement support program open to anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one at least six months prior to the beginning of the workshop and is willing to commit to weekly sessions.  Our purpose is to help people begin to heal their sorrow by offering the outstretched hand of Christ. The group is limited to 10 participants creating a safe place to share feelings with each other and with God.

Two trained facilitators guide the group in consultation with a clergy person.  For eight weeks group participants meet for 90 minutes on Tuesday evenings.

A workbook provides questions for reflection as well as exercises that will help you define a new relationship with your loved one through Christ. As a group you will sort out feelings brought about by the death of your loved ones and together find a renewed joy in each of your lives.  Individuals have benefited from the program even if years have passed since the death.  There is no time limit on grief.

Weekly sessions start on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Orleans campus; the last session is on Tuesday, November 15.  For information and registration contact Kathleen Moore at 813.221.6253; Jan Elliott at 813.243.0700; or the Rev. Randy Hehr at 813.259.1570.
