WHAT:

Pourtal, Santa Monica's premiere eco-conscious wine tasting bar, is celebrating Earth Day with a month-long Tasting Tour of the most eco-friendly wineries from all over the world.  April's "Eco-Friendly Wines" theme promotes wineries that not only produce organic, biodynamic and natural wines, but who also make wine in an eco-friendly environment. The 16 featured wineries practice a philosophy of sustainability and emphasize green ideas throughout the entire winemaking process from growing to bottling, from dry farming and bio-diesel to producing wine "off the grid" with solar and hydropower. The eco-friendly wines will be available by the taste through Pourtal's Enomatic machines for the month of April. Each wine is priced per 1 oz. pour, and guests are welcome to sample at their own pace. Five additional eco-friendly wine will be available on Pourtal's extensive by-the-glass list. In addition, Pourtal will host a series of special "green-themed" winemaker events and food and wine pairings throughout the month. Details listed below.

Wednesday, April 21, 7-9 p.m. Eco-event with Whole Foods Market Santa Monica and Ampelos Cellars Whole Foods Market Santa Monica and Pourtal team up to showcase the biodynamic wines from Santa Rita winery Ampelos Cellars & Vineyards.  Ampelos' winemaker will be on hand to pour specialty wines to pair with organic bites from Whole Foods.  $20 per person for food and wine tasting. Thursday, April 22, 7-9 p.m. Earth Day Celebration with Frog's Leap Winery Frog's Leap Winery will be at Pourtal to showcase the full scope of their organic approach from farm to bottle. The winery's primary focus is on sustainable farming, including understanding and appreciating the soil. Taste four of their iconic wines for just $12: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel. Tuesday, April 27, starting between 7-8:30 p.m. Eco-Friendly Food & Wine Salon with Helena Learn about the whos, whats and whys of food and wine pairing with wine educator Helena, who explains the art and science of pairing in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. $25 per person for a flight of pairings. Thursday, April 29, 6-10 p.m. Pourtal's One-Year Anniversary Wine & BBQ Pourtal celebrates its first anniversary on 4/29 with a special $4.29 Wine & BBQ evening. All barbecue plates are $4.29 per plate and select wine is $4.29 per glass all night long. No reservations necessary.

Angel Shares Happy Hour
Every Tuesday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and all night Monday, Pourtal will donate 15% of the sales from the Enomatic machines to local nonprofit organizations and will offer $4 appetizers and $5 glasses of wine. During the month of April, Pourtal will donate to the following organizations, dedicated to promoting sustainability and conscious living.
