Have a Facebook Page?

Connections are vital in ministry and one of the ways to connect today is through social media.

If your congregation has a Facebook page, have your congregation's page  "like" the synod's page.   Also, let Janelle Bidne, coordinator of communications for the Southeastern Iowa Synod, know that your congregation has a Facebook page by sending an e-mail to bidne@seiasynod.org so the Southeastern Iowa Synod Facebook page can "like" your congregation's page.

Today's social media, like Facebook, is a great way to keep congregations and the synod connected in ministry and to one another.

A Non-Partisan Mission
Bishop Michael L. Burk

In a culture that frequently reflects deep political divisions, I recently returned from a decidedly non-partisan mission to Washington, D.C.

As a member of a small group of ELCA bishops, (we call it a "Ready Bench"),* who work together on issues related to hunger and poverty, I met with a number of legislators and administration officials during the week immediately after Thanksgiving.

Episcopal Diocese and Southeastern Iowa Synod Retreat

Pr. Eric Carlson, Assistant to the Bishop

Episcopal Diocese of Iowa and Southeastern Iowa Synod ELCA Staff

On the tail of the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Full Communion between the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and The Episcopal Church, staff members of the Southeastern Iowa Synod and the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa spent a day in retreat on December 8, 2011. The conversation was facilitated by The Rev. Don McCoid, Executive for Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  The purpose of the retreat was to engage in conversations relative to potential mission planning and deepen the commitment to common mission in faithful witness to the Gospel.  For more information about the Full Communion partnership between the ELCA and the Episcopal Church, click here.

Spirituality Retreat for Rostered Leaders:
January 23 -24, 2012

On January 23-24th, rostered leaders are invited to an opportunity to gather with colleagues and spend some time thinking about and living in an attitude of gratitude, especially focusing on the theme verse " In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you".~ 1 Thessalonians 5:18.  With presentations from Pr. Gloria Keiser Dovre and other colleagues, this year's retreat will look at our response of gratitude for ourselves and our calls, the communities we live in and a global view.

Lutheran Services in Iowa's Lutheran Day on the Hill is taking place on March 12, 2012. This day is essential in giving a voice to those who are not heard, for seeking social justice and for empowering people to exercise their right and responsibility to be part of the legislative process.
