Member of the Month: Ryan Sielski
When I was asked to be the member of the month I was very surprised and honored. Throughout my life I loved playing sports and was very involved in hockey. I started playing at age 7 and continued to play throughout my college career. My dad played a big role in it, and started me on a weightlifting program. I loved it and was addicted to it from day one.
When I finished college however, I became very lazy and did not workout for four years. My weight was at an all-time high of 214lbs. I decided to come here to Razor Sharp in September of 2009 because I had to do something. I began weight training again and getting back into it. I started feeling good about myself slowly but surely, but then I hit a plateau.
Other members kept trying to get me to do the Ringside and Body Bootcamp classes. I finally said ok, and it turned out to be the best thing I could have done. The workouts are unbelievable! Thanks to Ernie for always pushing me!
I heard about the "Lose to Win" challenge that Razor Sharp was doing, and after talking to Alan about it, I decided it sounded fun and competitive. I told myself that if I was going to do it, then I was going to do it right. Alan gave me a goal of 1800 calories, and I kept doing everything the same with the addition of the TRX classes. TRX was awesome. It strengthened my core and toned me up to what I looked like in junior high.
My pants went from a size 34 to a 31 and my weight dropped to 175lbs. I was extremely happy! This would not have happened if it wasn't for the Razor Sharp Staff. They are all very helpful and when you walk through the door everyone is smiling. It's a great environment to be in!

Spring Clean Your Body |
|
In sync with spring's revival, our bodies also shift into a higher gear, letting us experience a welcome surge of energy. Almost instinctively, we clean out our closets and throw open the windows to let in fresh air. But why limit spring cleaning to just our homes? Our bodies need it as well.
Though we may not give it much thought, we often accumulate toxins in our bodies during the wintertime. Because we spend long hours indoors, we breathe less fresh air, we don't exercise as much, and we're generally not as active-after all, who wants to go jogging in a blizzard when the couch looks so cozy and inviting? Spring brings cravings for freshness, cleansing, and rejuvenation.
From March to May is the body's natural time for cleansing and detoxification. A spring detox, in fact, revives your energy, brightens your complexion, and strengthens your immune system while helping you drop excess winter weight and eliminate toxins. Both acupuncture and massage can help in this process.
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese healing method where hair-thin needles are inserted into the skin at specific locations called acupoints to encourage the flow of energy or 'qi', playing a crucial role in the transportation of toxins and wastes for elimination in our bodies. In the process acupuncture improves the functionality of the immune system and this makes the body more resistant to diseases of all sorts and detoxification.
Along with acupuncture, massage stimulates the body and boosts the circulatory system. When the muscles are made to relax and the tissue and fat are stimulated, toxins are released for easier elimination. Always make it a habit to drink a glass or two of pure water after massage to assist the body to flush out the toxins more rapidly.
Massage also helps to improve the functions of the immune system and the absorption of nutrients and minerals during digestion. These are the things that support an optimum natural detoxification of the body. It is always a great idea to sign up for regular massage sessions or for acupuncture therapy.
During the month of April enjoy 10% off massage and acupuncture services!

Sinus Problems? Attend the Acupuncture Demonstration April 19th |
|
Acupuncture can be a very effective treatment for sinus conditions of all types. Even by itself acupuncture can give relief to sinus pressure that can be felt right away. It can also help to unclog stuffed up sinuses and help stop sinuses from running. Acupuncture by itself can be very effective, but herbs may also be used along with the acupuncture to make the treatment even more effective.
Before allergy season starts, make plans to join Kelly Westerlund BS/MSOM, Razor Sharp Fitness Acupuncture Therapist, as she discusses acupuncture options and shows a demonstration on Tuesday, April 19th, 2011, from 7:00 - 8:00pm in the Razor Room.
