YES on MEASURE E!!
"Record Number Vote to Support Excellence in Education"
With 4,822 votes cast in support of Measure E, the vote passes by 71.17%. THANK YOU! Your support of Measure E has made the difference. Returning a record breaking 4,822 ballots, the largest election return in San Marino history, our community has resoundingly refused to allow the world class education offered in our schools to be impacted by the State's budget challenges. Your YES vote is a vote in support of the extraordinary educational opportunities offered here, opportunities built over 50 years by the hard work and dedication of parent volunteers, extraordinary students, gifted teachers and administrators and a community of citizens who believe in the lifelong gift of education. On behalf of the Board of Education, we thank you. Your sacrifice and foresight will ensure that we protect and preserve the programs which define our legacy of excellence.
Many people have been instrumental in this campaign, but we would not be here today without the leadership and vision of our Parcel Tax Committee Chair, Mrs. Nam Jack. Nam has done an extraordinary job of planning this campaign and recruiting an army of volunteers to assist her in leading this effort. The Board and this community owe Nam a debt of extraordinary gratitude. Nam, thank you.
An important component of this campaign has been the support of our students. We've shared the story of Calvin Ryan, Carver Elementary School student, who walked into Superintendent Woods' office to give him a check for $25 to "save" his teacher. And Denise Lindahl's class who won a reading contest and donated their $2500 winnings to save school programs. These selfless acts of kindness highlight the wonderful students of our schools. Our student campaign has been led by SMHS Senior Chloe Chang. Chloe has done a tremendous job of coordinating ~1000 SMHS students and recent alumni in their support of Measure E. We are awed by their support. Our students and alumni felt strongly about ensuring that the programs and classes so important to them were available to the many students who will follow them. To Chloe and these amazing seniors and graduates, we thank you.
To all who have assisted in and supported this campaign, we thank you. Truly, it takes a village to "educate" a child.
The Board of Education will immediately begin the process of "building back" the programs that would have been eliminated without your support of Measure E. A series of board meetings has been scheduled to finalize our 2009-2010 budget. These meetings will be held in the District Board Room, and your attendance is welcomed and encouraged. Scheduled dates include:
- Wednesday, May 6 at 6:30 pm
- Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 pm
- Tuesday, May 26 at 8:00 pm
Again, THANK YOU for your confidence in our schools and for ensuring our students continue to receive the excellence we expect in San Marino.
