August 2011
Greetings!

The rotating monthly business luncheons have proved beneficial and the chapter will continue with alternating location sites among our member municipalities.  This month Amanda McCrory of Burleson hosted our monthly meeting.  The meeting was held in their Council Chamber and Shai Roos reminded us why we love our profession.
Action taken at meeting

The membership took action on the following:

  • minutes--April and June
  • monthly treasurer reports--April through July
  • 3rd quarter treasurer report
  • 2011/2012 slate of officers

The proposed slate of officers for 2011/2012:

Kim Sutter, City of Euless - President

Alicia Richardson, City of Southlake - Vice President

Diane Cockrell, City of Decatur - Treasurer

Julie Heinze, City of Lewisville - Secretary

April Hill, City of Roanoke - Historian

The membership also discussed the proposed bylaws.  The redline version is attached for your review.  The bylaws will be considered at the September 14 meeting in Richardson. If you have questions on the proposed bylaws, please contact Jesica McEachern at 940-683-5906, extension 3404.

Peggy Burnside reported that the monkey survey related to Senate Bill 100 has been created, but TML asked TMCA to delay deployment of the survey until mid to late September.

TMCA President Mary Kayser informed the membership it will be important for municipal clerks to stay in front of Senate Bill 100.  Although many election administrators are committing to provide election services in 2012; this does not guarantee future agreements.  The legislature will not be aware of the concessions made by municipalities; e.g. additional polling locations, increase in costs, expenditures for election equipment, etc. If they see successful elections, they will consider there to be no problems; therefore no concern on the part of our legislators.  We need to be prepared for the next legislative session.

Here is an interesting article that ran in the Star Telegram on Saturday, August 20.  The title says it all...Confusion reigns over Texas' 2012 election calendar.

Next Meeting- September 14, 2011
Our next meeting will be held in Richardson and will be hosted by Pamela Schmidt.  The new officers will be installed and TMCA President Mary Kayser will be the guest speaker.
Registration for this event will open on Friday, August 26.  Please keep an eye out for the registration e-mail.  Our meetings and your attendance at the meetings is vital for the growth and strength of our chapter.  Please consider carpooling to the luncheons.
We look forward to seeing you next month.
